Flabbergasted AND astonished

Post by macplaxton » 29 Dec 2012 02:29 pm

BB has been running a bit crap lately, not helped in part by my random distributor bits.

A short while ago, I replaced the cap and rotor arm with a couple of similar items, but weren't quite the same. They were from my DAF stash of Ducellier bits and although everything appeared to fit together okay, it wasn't perfect. It was a case of that'll do for now and I'll sort out a proper cap and rotor later.

Anyway it was back on the 10th Oct, when I had a quote from PartsforCars in Blanchardstown for an Intermotor Distributor cap (46050) €13.48 and rotor arm (47400) €3.26, but I didn't dive in and order then as I knew I had a cap and rotor at home and they could get them quickly anyway.

So, I goes into the same PartsforCars yesterday and get a different (Polish) bloke at the counter. He asks me the usual: make, model, year, engine size then spends some time clicking away on the computer. Then he doesn't ask me the next usual question (Ducellier, Delco, SEV) question, but disappears into the stores (the fecker must be a mind-reader).

Then he turns back up at the counter with a a grey and yellow "Renault" OEM box  , inside of which is a nice original Ducellier cap   (€18.40). He hasn't got a rotor arm, but if I wanted one, I could go to another one of their branches (Rathgar Motor Factors) and pick up a suppressed rotor arm. So I buzzed down the south side and got a FACET rotor arm (€5.88)
of the correct sort (usually catalogues list the unsuppressed type).

Shopping for these sort of bits in Ireland is a pain in the pods. So to bag both a Ducellier cap and the right sort of rotor arm on the same day without waiting is nothing short of amazing.

Nice one. And that inbetween Christmas and the new year too :-)

Managed to get some OEM Volvo points for the Delco system on my 343 the other day, yeah!

Cheers

I was expecting the "tomorrow" line as they didn't have any last time, or at least they didn't admit to hiding anything back then. OEM Renault stuff down the factors too. Bloody weird!

Now, my carb was a bit loose too  Maybe I need something like Binx nuts to hold it on?
