IIRC, those Yugos were based on Fiats? Citroen LNA, Talbot Samba, Peugeot 104 were something else.

A Samba convertible ... that's a nice car.

FIAT 127s to be precise. I used to own a 127 when I were a lad, and when I first started visiting Yugolandia and drove these Yugos, I immediately recognised the appallingly loose gearchange and lousy driving position. Still loved my 127 (Sport) though.

Oh yeah, sorry, Yugos were based on Fiats and the others were different. I've heard the Yugo Zastava (cruelly) called the poor man's Fiat Panda.

I always liked them in the books but never actually saw one, ever. Has anybody? 10 grand will get you a wreck.

For the yoof here. Back in 1979, nobody slagged cars off on Top Gear. Nobody. It just wasn't done. This was up there with Clarkson's review of the first Vauxhall Vectra, with the manufacturer's getting in a right old humpty with the Beeb.

I think I saw some car program where they showed up that machine, if I remember correctly (unlikely) there were not very many made, but car was quite fast for it's time and it had nice engine note.

Must say I love those switches, C-pillar and front facial are things that fail that car mostly, imo. I might go for that instead of new Ford :mrgreen:

Ritmo Abarth, car that I once almost got, but I was scared off from it. Certainly rust ate them fast and there were lot of other quality issues, but it did have something in it's looks that was not too bad, 4 headlamp version that is, old 2 lamp version did look just sad, like begging to be put out of it's misery.

I wonder how russian cars would fit into this, Moskvitch 401 for example (pic is really big, so I put it as a link):

It was made late 50's and was somewhat popular here too, nobody seem to have those anymore and it was not quite the best quality, but later models like Elite which was very popular in here during 70's was quite poor quality, very easy to rust.

Lada was then of course one of the most popular cars here at early-mid 80's, but it has some following in here at least, also top gear tuned one at some point at your country.

Then politicians and big bosses drove at back seat of Volga, I think at some point there were some taxis of those kind here, but there were not very much market for them here.

Russian cars were not very good, but they were cheap and did their job enough well, but I think today very much forgotten.

Fiat cars had poor reputation here too, cheap, simple and fairly economic (at their time) machines with spartan interior, so many bought those too, some tuned versions visit track days still these days. Could use something like that these days :mrgreen:

Glad to see someone likes the creepy old Facel.... they were cars for stars (evidently). Also, remembered a while back that I told a lie....
...never actually saw one, ever. Has anybody?...
.... I have seen one in 2002..... there's one in the motor museum in Geneva.... just trying to say how cosmopolitan I am (not).... I must say that in general I find car museums are really chronically boring and a big turn-off..... is that just me? You can say 'yes'.
