Yep, there was plenty about in the 70's and, as the photo shows, I gather they were quite a common sight on the pitch at football grounds, although footy was never my forte. They were phased-out in the 80's when many owners actually switched to the Volvo 343 - as a small automatic with big doors, it was ideal as a mobility vehicle.Anyone remember these?

Re: Cars that time forgot
I'd forgotten about the football ground, that's right, they used to be on the edge!
They looked like characters out of the kids 'Cars' animation, where cars are like people
Here at 51seconds. Pity they didn't let them continue to bring the 300's instead

Re: Cars that time forgot
Then there's the Bond Minicar....
.... I used to be the object of much ridicule for being driven to primary school in one of these in the late 60's. It had a Villiers motor bike engine mounted on top of the front wheel. The steering wheel used to turn the whole engine. If the battery was flat, my father had to open the bonnet and put his leg over the wing to kick-start it. It all looked a scream and I am sure this was the basis of my twisted motor car tastes. In fact the shell was made of aluminium, so they lasted for ever, although most owners (and passengers) ended up wishing they.... (sounds familiar).

I saw a gold X reg one of these yesterday, the 1.4 engine was the same as the 340 as far as I remember and it sounded just the same coming down the road!

That was truly an epic motor.... and if you're keen on cars that have done some serious disappearing in spite of a long production run, how's about the Renault 16....

....if these cars had one redeeming feature, it can only be the smooth ride.

Now then, now then, how's about the Austin 3 litre, a wierd and unpopular variation of BL's landcrab design....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austin_3-Litre
.... they are rare and hardly ever in the popular classics press but I actually used to like the look of them a lot (and still do), although I never had a ride in one! Perhaps, as with certain DJ's of that era, best admired from a distance...

Awesome, there was a Yugo version of that known as the Zastava...
... and Yugo made a couple of other quite nice cars too, until the factory was destroyed by US/NATO bombs in 1999....

...the workers even made a human shield around the factory and many were hurt (that's dedication), but it didn't stop time forgetting this motor!!

Re: Cars that time forgot
I didn't realise that the factory was bombed, but I certainly remember the war always in the news around that time. It was disturbing seeing those things happening relatively close by.
Not a car I'd ever seen before tonight, stumbled across it whilst looking at the BMW 2002

On the subject of BMWs I started wondering where the grill shape came from....
