MY CAR DETAILS?

Post by Justin » 08 Feb 2013 04:50 pm

How do I go about showing what type of specific Volvo I own so that it shows at the bottom of each of my posts?

eg; 1.4 1988 Volvo 340DL
1988 340 1.4 DL

(I suffer with O.C.D. which makes me obsessed with fine detail)

(Diagrams or photos are far more helpful to me when it comes to cars)

Thanks. Also, what is the engine type of my 1.4 1988 Volvo 340DL? Is it a B14.3E, B14.4E, B14.40, B14.4S? And what does the "DL" stand for?

Not sure what variation the engine is, but DL stands for Dominic Littlewood. He invented the centrifugal clutch, was a pioneer of early CVT systems and was a champion of consumer rights.

How interesting, is he still alive? I naively thought DL meant "De-Luxe"... Lol

Well, you may laugh, but I have owned these cars since 1997 and, until last month, I always thought DL meant diesel.
1988 340 1.4 GL, 218k, 5 door (Grey Bess). Gone to CBA.
1991 340 1.7 GL, 64k, 5 door, petrol blue (Deep Blue).
1988 360 2.0 GLE, 140k, 5 door, ocean blue metallic (Blue Bess).
1989 340 1.7 GL, 108k, 3 door (Red Ness).
More info here!

To answer this bit of your question, I'm not exactly sure when all the engines changed, but I think B14.4E is a fairly safe guess for 1984 MY on.
Have a look at a little silver panel just above the oil filter on the engine block, that tells you. This is mine, a B14.1E on my 1980 345 DL (although the .1 looks a bit like a '.4' because of the dirt!).
