Average cruising RPM for 360 GLT

Hey,

Just wondering what highway cruising speeds for a 360 usually is. I have the 1984 model, and it seems to rev at 3000 at 100km/h (the speed limit over here).

Is this pretty high? I haven't taken my car on any long journeys yet cos I'm worried the engine might blow or something.

Am I being a bit too cautious, or would it be right for a 3-4 hour drive?

Thanks

Ohh righteo. But at 3000, do you reckon it would be right to drive for extended periods of time?

I've driven it for about 40 minutes at those revs without many problems... hmmm.

Just saw my typo in the last one lol truck. if it sounds like its labouring too much then its probably not ok. keep an eye on the temp gauge too. How long you had it? km's? last oil change etc? does it have egr?

You could drive it all day long at 6000rpm. It does sound like you are fairly low geared. What size tyres are you running?

My GLT is about the same with 3,64 diff and 185/60/R14 tires.

Our GL with 185/65/R14 and 3,27 diff had about ~2600rpm @ 100km/h.

Oh, so 3000 is normal? haha I drove in my mates old Corolla the other day, and his was going 3000 so I presume it should be right.

I'm not sure of the wheel sizes sorry :(

Man, here in Spain, limit is 120km/h and radars are calibrated to catch you at 132 km/h (trust me, I'm an engineer! xD). When I lived in Valencia, I used to travel at 125-130km/h four hours every week from my hometown at more than 3500 rpm and got no problems!

And... you'll probably don't know that in Valencia people must be a little crazy and they use to drive at 140 km/h or more and even at this speed, my 89' 360 GLE has always worked with no problems at all (except for my pocket!)

So no pain, man!

Agree with the reliability thing. i can leave my project or 7 or 8 weeks without starting. if its got power and gas it'll fire quicker than either my 850's a sit there purring away for twenty odd min. even after getting her off the clock once i cruised home let her idle and not a miss.
