My 360 had a painted metal facia adapter to go with it's hillarious Beltek AM/FM cassette head unit which was installed from new.

Those sloping front Volvo radios look crap imo. Maybe if they followed the lines of the dash...

Quite right too!

I will admit that I should have pointed out that aftermarket fitting kits do sometimes need mods to fit properly, but
Volvo radios just slide in - assuming the correct fascia and side slide mounts are used (generally the fascia kit includes the mounts).

Now, about C/L, something odd is going on here - I find it very hard to think you're wrong Chris but:- I have had a good few drivers door (twin plug) switches apart (they used to suffer water ingress) and never found a motor in one (yes the same moulding is used) one plug is power and earth, the other plug goes to the motors. If you look in the wiring manual (page 81 in the version hosted here in the tech section) only three motors are shown with the drivers door "motor" casing showing only a solenoid and reversal switching. In the "old" days the factory preferred alarm for 300's was the accessory alarm by Bosch, but the UK settled on a Scorpion system (with which I had much to do) and one requirement was the inclusion of a single motor and fittings for cars with C/L and two or four motors for cars without. On 200/700 cars the situation was different as all door locks were powered and the switch arrangement was fitted around the lock barrel.

300s never had remote C/L as standard but it's possible that on some markets they did and that a combined motor switch exists (I simply haven't come across one) but again it does not appear in the wiring books.

Or I might be just plain wrong (I was wrong about std.rear wipers on "transition" Mk3s and could be here) Perhaps somebody knows more- the truth is out there!

I'll be over on the island in a fortnight Mac, I should be able to get a look (it was on Kar, so a late MC chassis). I'm sure a few of the others I've pulled out were the same though.

Cheers everyone :) and thanks for the photos, they were very helpful. It will be good to see a much tidier and neater looking stereo :)

I understand what you mean with keyless entry... I take it that it would be the same sort of procedure for this:

His is a 240, but it would be the same thing, right? He had to install a motor in drivers door and then do all the rest... actually I only watched the first few minutes of it, the video seems to drag on for a bit...

In the rear passenger window on the right hand side of the car, there's a little symbol saying "Car alarm fitted" or something like that. I've always thought it was just to make potential thieves think there was one in there... but maybe there actually is?

Just to add - the factory fit Bosch alarm was an alarm/immob only (no remote c/l) and was operated by a key switch generally mounted on the rear n/s lower wing (but could be elsewhere). This was not just a switch but contained a series of resistors that the alarm ECU needed to read to switch off.

If you look in the "Blue Leaflet" section of tech resources you will find the fitting instructions for the Bosch unit. ( years ago Aymat posted my whole collection of 300 accessory fitting instructions).

The UK market fit was a Scorpion unit that had full conversion to remote C/L.

Hey everyone, just one last thing, someone said that you need a locking motor for the driver's side door... well, would I be able to salvage a motor from the rear-driver-side-door of another 360 of the same model, and use that for the front driver's side in mine? If I wire that up correctly, will I then be able to install the central locking? Or would I be able to salvage a motor from a 240 and that would work fine also? (My uncle has a heap of 240s in his shed)

Cheers :)

Much, much tidier! (where do they hide the cigarette lighter on these air-con cars?)

Cheers! The cigarette lighter is back up near the rear ash tray. The air conditioning on my car doesn't work either, I was quoted a maximum of $1,500 Aussie dollars to get it refitted, because it's based on an old and now illegal gas system...

Oh well :/
