The 300's not that rare yet! (Volvo (DAF) made 'em to last)

Although statistics can be used to prove anything, if you read between the lines, 300's are rarer than sierras. Approx 2000 300's left (by my quick calculation) but 15,000 sierras! (the sierra being number 20 on the list). It's done as a percentage left compared to those produced, so biased towards British made cars that fell to bits in 5 years.

Given they are working on percentages...

With the 300 having over 1,000,000 built (as there is the Millionaire special edition and that flipping awful red thing) and 230 360s and 1900 340s still taxed and SORN combined, gives us 0.21% left (assuming 1,000,000)

Which would put them 18th in the league, above the Rover 200 if they were British as the thing asks. Not as bad a survival rate as I thought tbh.

I was just thinking that, the 300 should be up there. Maybe it's just for UK made cars then? I thought it was all cars....Fords not British? Although I expect they made them somewhere down south?

Not sure how an MG 1100 is an 80's car?

The more you look at this article, the more you realise it's not really what its says in the title!

An Ital is really a marina anyway (princess and ambassador too) and what's the Victor doing in there?

Maybe your right Chris, no 'foreign' cars in there. It would have been a little more interesting to have all cars in, but maybe just a little too much like hard work!

Everyone knows Ford is British.... they make them in Dagenham don't you know

Yes, they are British only. I was going to comment on the Marina/Ital, especially as all the Vivas are lumped together!

Yes, I saw this earlier today and thought it was all a bit silly really, no indication of actual rarity at all.

BUT if it makes people stop and think that just scrapping their 80s cars might start being a bad idea, then that's a good thing :)

Less Montegos around than Avengers, Marinas, Vivas ... that's a surprise. Not many Rover SD1s, even though they've been "collectable" for quite some time. Can't believe the Metro is on that list, either.

The BL cars are the ones that need saving, given that the UK was their only real market. Even if UK Sierra numbers are dwindling, there'll be a whole lot more in LHD land which survive, unlike Austin / Rover / Morris etc.

Cheers

I find some of those numbers hard to believe, are there really only 310 Rover SD1s left? There are 9 on ebay, that would be 3% of all of them left are currently for sale. There are half that many 300s for sale on ebay.

I would love one of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hillman-AVENG ... 43bbbc7ec6

The price tag makes a Mk1 Escort seem good value though!

Thats some avenger! I remember them in their bog standard state from the 70's as a kid. That one would have turned heads even then! At the time you didn't realise how good those cars were going to against the cars of the the future (now!), especially in tuned form. Only now can you see the scaled down American muscle car in the Hillman Avenger :)

Wasn't the tiger the souped up version?
Cheers Mark.
