Though Volvo did have it's own competition department in Gothenburg (and still does, with a different name and less visibility for "normal" customers though as it did in the Golden ERA of the Volvo motorsport). Found in 1959 and named as Volvo Motorsport division, at 1962 name was changed to Volvo Competition service and in 1978 it was renamed to Volvo R-Sport division. They built cars for quite many customers here in Finland also (rally cross and Group-A mainly) and of course all of the Volvo's own factory team competition vehicles. R-Sport division at Gothenburg also built all of the homologation models of the cars which Volvo Factory Team used in different motorsport classes. With deep enough pockets you basically could order a race car with those specs you wanted in the limits of the homologation rules of the class in question, but I don't suppose anyone would've ordered a stock 300-series R-Sport street car from them. ;) Though you'll never know if they might have prepped some of the street cars also, like they did with the homologation models. They also built many concept and prototype models, for example the 363 CS (CS=Competition Service).

This department was completely separate from the stock production line. In 1983 it was renamed again, R-Sport Division became the Volvo Motorsport.

There was even a R-Sport shop at Gothenburg from where you could have bought race spec crate engines off the shelf. ;)

Ford did similar with their Advanced Vehicles Operation, building anything from the hot road rally stuff through to really silly things.

True! 70's and 80's would've been great eras to be a Volvo enthusiast with a bit of loose money. 8) Factory "hot-rod" parts were available as so many models were homologated to many racing series.

Some of the older Volvo enthusiasts here tell they were drooling over that 16V R-Sport engine, there was one for display behind the glass at the main Volvo Dealer in Helsinki, Finland at the 80's.

Price tag on the engine was something like 45 000 Finnish Marks. That was A LOT of money back then. For example a factory 240 Turbo with a B21ET engine cost about 130 000 Finnish Marks back then, so the 16V engine alone cost more than 1/3 of the price for the whole Turbo car. :-P Though it was still quite cheap compared to similiar engines, price for a BDA Ford engine with same specs was about twice of that 16V R-Sport. :-p

Hi mate.
When i got my 345 stripes, i made templates of all the sizes.
I sent them to Volvosneverdie up in the north East of England.
He might still have them. You could ask.
Cheers Mark.

Would love for someone to get the body kit and make some moulds of it. I would have 1 or 2 sets at least
