Parts availability

Post by Chris_C » 03 Jun 2013 07:54 pm

I'm not sure if this makes me feel better or worse?

Moral of the story: let's keep as much as we can parts for the future! And let's give a full support to the nice initiatives (Robbert Jan, Dai, Mac...) for parts reproduction!

I can see a lot of the GTI bits getting re manufactured.

With the 300 we are probably in a worse situation as many mechanical parts are NLA.

You never know in 10 years time the 300 could be as well supplied for as the Amazon's are now!

What they are moaning about I already experienced in 2004-2006 when I recommissioned my red '79-er 343DL (Cybille).
I searched worldwide to get everything I needed and I even went to Athens to pick up plasticy bits..... thank you for the frequent flyer miles and the free tickets!

Given the inclusion of injection moulded plastics in all retro cars, I think it'll be everything.

The skillset we have here, along with those who actually get involved rather than "bench reproducing" (looking solely at me here..., it makes a change from bench racing at least), makes us a lucky bunch.

These include a new windscreen that cracked when it was removed, front indicators that had foliage growing in them and new rear lights. All of which shouldn't be too much of a problem to source as they're still available from Peugeot.
Well done at least for that Peugeot, I wonder if windscreen, indicators and rear lights are still available for a V300 from a Volvo main dealer?

I can see the "scene" for a 205 GTI being much wider than for a V300, where the main focus is the Netherlands and the UK. 80's Euro hot hatches have a much wider appeal.

Cheers

Windscreen? Forget it! LOL I was looking for one 5 years ago, impossible to get it from a Volvo dealer... I found one by an alternative supplier.

Yeah, I don't know about volvo but the local garage supplied a brand new tinted windscreen for my silver 340 (which features somewhere else on this forum, dah-dum dish) without any trouble, a year or two ago ;-)

For future reference, I've seen these guys mentioned a few times.

http://www.uroglas.com/remanufacture.html

They can make a screen to spec, be it with or without tint, sunstripe and they mention front heating elements if you are super keen.

Of course there'll be the odd helpful dealer with a stash hidden away somewhere, or a dealer who orders parts outside of the Volvo parts distribution network, but that still doesn't alter the PART DELETED flag next to most 300-specific parts in the dealers' computer :-( I'm amazed that Peugeot is one step ahead of Volvo in that respect.

Actually, maybe that's because the 205 was built up to '99 or so, 15 years after production ends seems to be the watershed for many manufacturers.

Cheers

Online ordering link at left seems not to be working for me, but I would try that one, they used to have those and there still is mention of classic vehicles at finnish version of site at least, also I think that was original supplier for Volvo at some point?:

Pilks did/do supply Volvo. I know you can still get 240 screens from them (this year 2013) and I suspect they will probably do 300 series screens.
