Well, he did ring me at 3 am and 6.45, but he seems to be a satisfied customer!

So, set off from bolton in the 1.7, got just shy of birmingham, and what I'm petty sure happened was the thermostat jammed shut..
so 239 miles required with only the heater matrix for cooling gives burned feet + heatstroke.
It was like apollo 13 but 20oC, not 20A. Felt sorry to be getting rid of it after that show of constitution.

{new keyboard} The 1.4 (I reckon) is the 'right' engine for the 300... it's PROPERLY simple...
I'll do a video of tuning the thing.. before, during and after.. check how long it takes.
Nah, not a great story... but an adventure into the unknown [how hot is too hot], answer being - still don't know.

Also I think that 1.4 motor responds a lot nicer than 2.0 redblock.

Damn this car is sweet!, everything is new, or renewed at some point - at least.
Scrupulous history, all the big jobs done long ago. I'll be starting tomorrow on the paint, might even have the welding done if I can find someone able and willing to do a good job, I'll see what AutoPaint can do in the way of old metallic matches... not always been 100% in the past.
Anyone know of a source where I might find repair patches for the rear arches?
And, sorry, I'm terrible with carb numbers and types, what rebuild kit do I want?

Imperial have a wheelarch for the offside according to their site. For the other side it's a case of getting one through Klokkerholm. Mac can faciltate this.
Carb kt is out there on the site somewhere. I could have sworn Mac had written about it at some point. When you have actually cooled down and recovered from you journey perhaps search?

The Weber 32 DIR guide is in the technical section here, there are part numbers in it I think.
Mac does the body gasket, which might be all you need for a strip down and clean.
Themostats on them usually go the other way and fail open. Having ran a 1108cc Renault engine of the same family to the warning light, it was time to do the headgasket. Not difficult but might need a Helicoil kit as the head is made of cheese. Gasket easy enough to do, just make sure the head is twisted off and the liners held down with bolts and washers. Nothing worse than a liner lifting.

It was p******* fuel all over itself inside.. I've had the carb off and in bits today, piece of cake - Tighten blatantly obviously loose parts, blow through jets, remove inspect bits n bobs..
I thought it was running cold too, the temp wire was a bad connection.
I'm surprised it ran at all with the amount of fuel pishing out of... emulsifier tube end cap.. ?
Tappets are fine, first ones I haven't touched.
Gearshift next.. I'll see if will tighten+adjust but I'm thinking this gearbox has a misplaced shim or something, so I'll have to mod the gate.. and it's only 6:24
