Manufacturing date

Hello
I have just bought 360 GLT 1984 from the Netherlands . It is an old dream come true for me ... :360:
I am from Israel and to import the car, it must be over than 30 years .
( The rules here are: you can import new car => less than 24 months old timer classic => > 30 years...)

The specific car was registered on 29/06/1984 so I have to wait almost 9 months .... Unless I would be able to prove earlier manufacturing date.

Is there any way to know the exact manufacturing date based on the VIN ?
Do you think that Volvo public relations would be kind to provide official information ?

Thx for your help

Haim

Hello Haim,

If you have a full VIN you can ask Volvo the history of the car, not so much the PR department but a Volvo main dealer.
One of the things that can be found out is the date that the car came of the production line.
Knowing that your car comes from Holland I suspect that the production dat won't differ too much with the date of first registration.

I guess your first call should be at Volvo NL. If you don't have any joy with them I can draft something for you in German which you can forward on to Volvo Car Germany.

Just let me know via PM...

Cheers

Hello

I have received detailed answer from Volvo NL
The car was manufactured 14/09/1983 and invoiced one month later
Interesting but it was registered only 8 months later on 29/06/1984

So thank you all for your comments and willing to help !!

And this is where it all started
This picture was taken in 1981 when my dad bought his 1978 343DL Vario

It served us for 10 years until it was sold
I loved it and I assume that because of this car I love cars !

Even at the time it was on the market the 300 series was a rare car in Israel
The only engine sold here was the 1.4 ( manual and Vario)
Now it is impossible to find one to buy , this why I have to import one

Hello
I would like to share with you the final status and conclusions on this matter
Eventually I must wait until 01/01/2014 , which luckily is not so far away from now :) to be able to import my 360 GLT to Israel.

The reason that I have to wait, is that although the car was assembled on Sep. 1983 ,
the "Model Year" of the car is 1984.

The model year is defined by the manufacture and specified on the VIN, by the 10th digit .
The letter "A" represent model year 1980 and so on ... In my case it is "E", which means: 1984!

In the mean time , I bought an 1988 340 1.4 , that was almost scrapped and will be used as parts donator.
I will add some pictures

Hope you will find this information interesting
