Removing Volvo speakers from the plastic mount?

Post by williswoody » 23 Oct 2013 02:13 am

Hi all! I've purchased a new set of Pioneer speakers for the front of my car to replace the crappy, 30 year old degrading Volvo speakers that were in there. They have a bit more OOMPH. :)

I've gotten the same size speakers (4 inch) and removed the old speakers, but it seems like the old speakers have been glued to plastic mount. I've tried putting the new speakers in the same hole, but they are a bit too thick to fit inside the door, so I guess the mount is the only way to do it.

How would I go about removing the old speakers from the mount? Are they actually glued in or just really tightly in there? Cheers

They are glued in. i got a small flathead and hammer and used it like a chisel to chisel the glue away.

Hi mate.
Yey , glued in. Get a thin screw driver and work your way in between
speaker and mount. Work the screw driver side ways to start prizing
them apart. That worked for me.
Cheers Mark.

I got them off! I wasn't going to use the other speakers, so I soaked them in hot water to loosen up the glue, and they came off easily!

Mounted the new speakers in after much swearing and found out the old speaker covers didn't fit over the new speakers (being too big).

So after a bit of an ordeal, we managed to get the new covers over the mounts haha. It looks a little bit shithouse, but better than leaving them exposed.

Now I can register the 360 again and go and pick up babes. :)
