Hi all,
Running a large dismantling facility here in N.Ireland we do get the odd few rare cars coming through worth saving. This week i had a 360 GLE come through our system. Garaged but untouched from 2006, it was recovered back in not so good looking condition and at first glance i designated it for the crusher..

It wasnt until it had a close look underneath i noticed no chasis rot what so ever. So hand turned engine and seemed fit. Filled with fresh fuel, and with a quick squirt of easy start, she came to life, and actually ran quite well, 70K on clock.

So give her a little clean up and very surprised at the result..

Looks like another lives on then :)

We're a few minutes from Nutts Corner. As a youngster i had many RWD cars, mantas, scrorts, twin cams, ascona's, but one of my favs was a 360GLT i owned for a while, so this kinda brought back some memories. Car will end up lowered on minlites or similar, welded diff, and if a 2.3T comes in will probably end up with that as the heart :)

Hi mate.
Ride_on is putting a 2.3T into his. Sounds like a great plan.
Cheers Mark.

Dude that is exceptional, a saloon 360 GLE Injection, very rare and I think will be the high compression engine. Did they make Saloon 360 GLEi in 87 when GLTs went low compression..anyone?

Looks like 1986 model?

Mine is 87 carb high comp, but with 200K miles and rusted to hell. If I have known about yours I could have saved myself 4 years of work. Make sure you rust-proof it WELL!

If you are ever near Holywood, PM and we can meet, not many 300 owners here.

Yeah shes an 86 model. Probably the b200E or b200EA engine? will look for an EGR valve if i get a chance, been a long time from ive been round a 300 series engine bay lol

No EGR in the UK 360's, 86 GLEi definately 10:1

B200EA was 9.2:1, lacks low end, easy to stall.
I think B200EO was 10:1, should work on 95, but you may need a good 95 octane, or higher, or you can fit a later ignition to back it off a bit.

We don't seem to have any owners manuals from 1986, would be good to check the octane rating.

You can check your engine number as part of the VIN.

Not seen those big door "bumpers" before. Looks like this was meant for the dodderiest of old fools  Or just foresight of to-day's drivers.

They are common on 360's

Also if you look at the Ricky project thread Ricky has that type so they did also make it onto 340's

I like the thick trim on the 360, appeared in 86 along with the colour coded and flusher, deeper bumpers. Nothing doddery about it! Looks seek and modern (trimwise anyway). Strangely Volvo did something similar with the trim on the 940s only 10 years later. A late 80s 360 looks more modern than an early 90's 940.

The 340's also got the new shape bumpers in 86 but I think they don't look right with the thin door trim, doesn't match the bumper middle strip. Later changed in 88 or 89 on the 340?

Hi trim 340s only, generally the '89 GLEs/Red/Bluelines or '91 end of line GLs

I agree about the matching strip, colour coded bumpers and thick door strips look awesome on red or blue cars.

Don't think there is anything "hi" about this lowly '88 DL one. I mean look at those pauper wheels...

Gotta say that is pretty bloody unusual. Has the drivers door been swapped, as it looks a different shade? Maybe the trims were swapped to match... or maybe it's just weird. It is a diesel afterall...
