Did you know that vehicles in N.Ireland's cannot have exhausts louder than original specification?

Pretty sure I was running about with straight through on my 345 in the 90s, must have pissed off a few people.

Yes. It would be to comply with EC rules on these things.
If you look at The Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 - Regulation 55 it shows a table. I'm sure it's been amended many times since to comply with newer EU standards.
I seem to remember somewhere in the MOT book for motorcycles if it was post 1986ish then it had to have a "E" marked can on it, so whilst the tester wasn't testing the noise of the thing directly, they'd have a quick reference to whether or not it had passed noise tests.

Just seems so many break it and police never mention it.
They stop you if your tyres squeak when you pull off (which isn't illegal), but you can make as much noise as you like with your exhaust (which is).

That must just be a PSNI thing. Depending on how bored they are, the Met or Thames Valley and even Police Scotland would be mentioning it lots and issuing a VDRN or a FPN. Easy money.Ride_on wrote:Just seems so many break it and police never mention it.
