Greetings from Portugal!
Greetings from Portugal!
Hi all
Thanks for accpeting my registration here! I was once registred to the french version of V3M but it seems that my log on data is kaput
So here I am, currently owning a MY82 340GL. This is my second 300 series, the first one was a 345GL (MY81). I've also had some other Volvos... and 33 different cars for the past 18 years
Bought this one from the first owner, with a mere 62.000 miles on the clock. Few rust issues to deal with and a major respray done two years ago, with the original 183-5 Metallic Blue paint. Currently it is being serviced (fluids, filters) and it will be pampered as it deserves. God, are those seats comfortable! And it still has the period Volvo RS2350 radio - what a lovely "lo-fi" sound!
First item on my to-do-list: ditch the Hercules wheels (not corresponding to the car's MY) and fit some original, period-correct wheels, maybe Leo's
As soon as possible I'll share a few more pics with you guys!

A very nice car you have there,summum wrote:So here I am, currently owning a MY82 340GL.
though that isn't a MY82, it's a MY83. The model year 1983 starts Sept 1982 to August 1983.
MY82 has the previous style Smiths Instruments.

My VIN states that this one was built in 1982 I'm puzzled!
By the "previous style Smiths instruments" you mean these?
(that was my previous 345GL MY81)

Yes, those "Star Wars" ones.
The 10th character of the VIN on your car is "D"?

That looks like late 1981 or 1982, as the panels before that had the clock adjustment from the rear and not through the front glass.summum wrote:By the "previous style Smiths instruments" you mean these?

Re: Greetings from Portugal!
Jesus! The things you know it's a "D" allright - so that's a MY83! Just learned something here today Thanks! !!
Re: Greetings from Portugal!
By the way, hope you don't find me abusive, but by any chance do you know the name of those 13" original Volvo wheels that look like Leo's but with three spokes?

Re: Greetings from Portugal!
No, not at all.
Don't think they had a name. Some wheels had names added to them later:
The wheels you are talking about are these 5.5J x 13 alloys:

I think somebody nicknamed them "luclucs".
(I'm still working on wearing those Cheng Shin Maxxis out)

There they are! Spot on, mate! Thanks a lot for the info
I'm chasing a set of those here in PT, but they're a bit far from me and I'm trying to be sure about their condition...

Hi mate and welcome.
I was in Lisbon a couple of weeks ago and it rained all day. Just like home
Cheers Mark.

Re: Greetings from Portugal!
Hello and welcome! I love the look of that old radio, reminds me of my old '88 GLi which I drove as a daily for over ten years, including a very similar-looking RS-3355summum wrote:Hi all And it still has the period Volvo RS2350 radio - what a lovely "lo-fi" sound!

The "Hercules alloys" (for want of a better name) are almost correct for the period - if I remember correctly they came out the same (model) year the saloon emerged: ie 1984, possibly even sooner as an accessory. I think "Luclucs" would suit it down to the ground though ...
Cheers
Tom

I must have some sort of deep psychological problem that prevents me from having any luxury on my classic cars.360beast wrote:score for you, too flash... They look perfect.macplaxton wrote:I've got 5, only because Sion didn't want them as they were too flash
