Hi everyone

bought my 340 last weekend and have been daily driving it since! loving it so far have driven almost 700 miles already in the space of a few days and it's running really well. it's a 1985 1.4 4 speed, was amazed at how pokey it is and also how simple the engine is.

it has some front end damage as you can see in the picture, but i have a replacement valance i'm going to weld in as the rest has been sorted by the previous owner. Will then probably paint it.

only thing i would say is that my car doesn't get very hot, on long journeys it only went to just above halfway on the temp clock - should i be worried? my s13 overheated when it had no coolant in. maybe the engines just run colder and don't generate a lot of heat?

It sounds as though you need a new thermostat to sort the running cool issue :)

that's what i was thinking! maybe it's opening too soon? doesn't seem to be too big of a deal, i'll replace it but i don't think i'll have damaged anything in the past few days as i've let it warm up a bit before driving.

It'll probably be constantly open or partially open, allowing the water to be cooled by the radiator all the time. You won't have damaged anything but it's worth replacing as it'll make the car use more fuel and the oil will take longer to get to temperature too.
