HELP NEEDED - urgent

Is there a Sql database / Phpmyadmin specialist here??

There is a problem on the forum with special characters.

For example: £3 instead of £3 on the old topics

My question: how do I replace, in one time, all the "£" by "£" in a SQL table in Phpmyadmin?

have you tried re-uploading the databases, but using ascii, not binary, for the upload protocal? might work?

otherwise.. i cant think of the command off the top of my head - however, there is one out there..

I can't re-upload the old database, I don't wanna lose all the new message!

And the actual database has now wrong characters for the old topics and good characters for the latest topics since one week........

If I can solve that through Phpmyadmin, I would be happy...

If you backed up the database, took the thing offline for an hour or so, then re-uploaded the 'modded' database, you could do a simple find and replace in a text editor. You keen to stay up till silly o'clock this morning?

Could do that... But the result is not guaranted I think... (have to determine ALL the wrong characters, it's sometimes strange.... example : http://www.volvo300mania.com/forum-uk/v ... .htm#11843 ), then the upload must be good this time... )

Hmmm, I see the point..... Erm, that's not gonna be an easy one, you can pull all the acute A's, but it's followed by an almost random (cos i can't suss out how it's generated) character. Erm... nah, no idea I'm afraid

Problem solved (I think...) Sorry for the inconvenience, I know that 24h is long

but time was really necessary to solve it, the forum had to be offline... (THANKS CHRIS for your help and nice program
