360's...

Post by volvo360 » 05 Jan 2004 11:07 pm

Since I'm feeling too lazy to do any actual studying
(at this hour), I might just as well write to the forum again :D
As you might now, I've owned three 360's... here are some mainantaining (other than
regular) jobs I can remember:

-Timing belt replacement
-Exhaust manifold gasket replacement
-Fixing leaking differential & transimission (driven in a stump) and being unable to do it right
--> constantly added new API-GL5
-Drive shaft replacement (it broke in a busy crossroad)
-New rear door window (somebody tried to steal my Volvo!)
-New rear door handle
At 330 000km (and still going strong) I traded her in for #2.

-Complete steering system replacement (Driving curves was kinda funny for a long time :) Other
than that, #2 proved to be an extremely dependable ride.
Sold her to my friend for 80€ :? (freshly inspected) with the odometer reading 260 000km.

-Loads of welding was required to replace all the rust with fresh metal
-New backlights since the old ones were missing
-Fixed a leak in the muffler
-Replaced complete rear brake hydraulics
-Replaced one tie rod (?)
290 000km, currently waiting for the summer and a new paint job in my parking lot.
There sure are some very extraordinary strories to tell about my Volvos and the situations I've
gotten in with them... Maybe I'll find the time to write about them in full length : )
Cheers,
Ari

Oh! Somebody tried to steal your Volvo 360??? sm93 sm31
It's surprising sm14 because
- I often hear that people in Finland are VERY honest, compared to other European countries
(am I wrong?)
- the 300 series has the big advantage that robbers are not really interested in! A 360 looks like
a common 340 and people don't realize it's a 2.0 engine! Ok, if you have painted "GLT' on
the doors and the bonnet, I understand... sm61
Wooow, you're a specialist concerning the 360, isn't it? sm40 How much hours /
weeks / months spent on the 3 cars?

You are so wrong.. We Finnish are so jealous and bitter (not me of course  ) if someone has
got a really nice car, and all tuned up.. Here if you got a tuned car and you have been in some
carshows it is really a big risk that someone will steal your car and takes some HiPo (high
power) parts from it and burns or wrecks the rest somewhere
Jani from Finland
BTW. Great forum..

Finnish people are OK. Originating from Germany, I think that
they could be a little more open, though.
Here's a little background information why cars are such a tabu in Finland:
Due to immense pressure after WWII Finland reached an agremeent with the Soviet Union
(border neighbour) only to sell Soviet cars.
At some point borders had to opened to the western market, which of course ment the end for
Soviet cars.
Being clever (?), the decision makers taxed western cars so high, that virtually no one could
afford them. The taxes have remained until today and are being held legitimate by a special
agreement with the EU (to my understanding).
Here's an example add from www.nettiauto.com (classified car ads page):
Volvo 740 2.0i -89
350 000km
No extras
Price: 6900€
And another one:
Volvo 360 3d B200K -87
270 000km
No extras
650€
Uh, where was that Understanding Earth book (Geology) again...
Cheers,
Ari

I think you would offend a finn by saying they originate from germany. Far from it, they are
related to Hungarians. Both the finnis and hungarians are from the same group of peoples,
know as the Finno-Ugrians.
It is important that people do not make assumptions on where other people come from.
Enough of the history lesson, enjoy the site.

price fixing is every where and on everything, just about
anyway. in uk cars are taxed high, it is cheaper for us to buy a car built in uk from nl, fr, swe
and so on !! and it drives on the correct side (RHD) !
how can this be right.they build in uk,ship over to where ever and pay import/export tax, sell at
profit then dealer takes his cut, ship it back to uk and then pay import/export tax, duty, road tax
and so on AND IT IS STILL CHEAPER THAN YOU CAN GET 1 FROM UK DEALER!!!???
and we are not talking small savings on some cars we are talking £3,000-£5,000 sometimes on
say a £20,000 car.
£200 is more my price for a car
