on the bright side! As it melts and slides off it'll take the dirt with it. Leave her looking all clean until you drive through the resultant slush.
We've just got lots of frost here. Very cold!

So ice is not very common in UK then?

I can't think of christmas without snow and ice, I think that I have never experienced such thing.

At winter time I always need to clean ice from windows, very often sweep snow before scraping windows clean from ice. Steering is heavy and gears won't go in too well, battery feels almost flat, really hate these things on winter.
Of course nowdays it is not as cold as it used to be 10 years ago, -30C was common back then, now it is barely -20C once in winter. Some say that this is not because of global warming, just normal fluctuating, but I'm not sure about that, I feel that soon there is no more white christmas :(

Statistics proof that the last time we had a white christmas over here was back in 1981!! The definition is a pack of snow on both christmas days at the place of the meteorological centre in the middle of the country. Pretty weird, because we had lots of snow last February, and the whole country was going crazy. So if it's possible why not in christmas!!

Temperature gain or loss are incremental past the equinox and kicks in harder after the solstice. Think of a pendulem swing. It all depends on the length of day.

Although June 21 is midsummer day, the hottest days are actually July and August as the earth continues to increment heat because days are longer than nights. :) After October Equinox (12/12 day/night) the earth starts to lose heat as the days get shorter than the nights. :(

The Winter Solstice (December 21st, which incidentally was the Pagan 'Xmas' hijacked by the Christian faith) is not the coldest but as opposite to summer the coldest is in late January and February as the earth continues to lose heat until the next vernal (spring) equinox in March.
Hence weather extremes have a month or so time delay after the relevant 'Mid-whatever'. Other things can effect it but small 'glitches'soon settle back to the pattern. i.e. The European "El Ninio" is the North Atlantic Oscilation which has a very major effect as it affects the Humbolt Current (Gulf Stream) direction. Greenland gets warmer - we get colder. sm17
