fake leather??

did anyone else know that volvo 300s never actually came with leather? its synthetic! i noticed this cos in the owners manual (i was bored) it had a section on cleaning the interior of your car, of which part was for synthetic leather, but none was for real leather! shocking..

Hmmm, most cars only have leather faced seats, i.e. the part you sit on, the rest of the seat as in the back and sides is usually sinthetic! I would think this would be the same in the 300's, I can't see Volvo putting 'fake' leather in their cars!

its listed in the manual as 'synthetic leather' - no mention of real leather at all. can anyone confirm by reading the sales broscures?

Okay, which manual are you using with this information, are you sure it is not 'synthetic' leather cleaner, as opposed to synthetic leather cleaner, i.e. like synthetic oil as opposed to the ordinary stuff!??

the origional volvo owners handbook. it says 'to clean the cloth.. blah blah.. to clean the synthetic leather... blah blah.. to clean the plastic.. blah blah'

Ah, i see, it says immitation leather, gutting as i have just found a car with a leather interior today! What do you think, worth putting in the GLT, as opposed to the black with grey piped seats?

i'd do it if the seats are in good nick. apparently they dont wear so well/arent as tough, so thats something to bare in mind if you load the car up (i cirtainly do..)

use the fact its not real as a bargining tool - get some money off

i'd love a new set of seats for mine but i want to keep them blue - the lumbar support is broken on mine and they're generally in sh*t nick.. shame :S

Volvo would hardly of charged you £500 + for leather when it was fake, would they !!

The "leather look" refers to the back of the cloth seats that were trimed in a vinyl.

Look at some leather seats in a 300 & you'll see the cracks & general wear you can only get with leather, not vinyl.

i've never seen leather seats (or synthetic leather seats) in a 340, but i strongly doubt volvo would sell both..

I have seen several 300's with this option fitted, they ARE leather & they were an option for this country - in black only.

What more can I say ?

Yes I have an options brochure which sales LEATHER as a £500 + option.

It does not say REAL leather nor does it say fake or leather look. I have yet to see a brochure that states leather as a REAL leather option - have you ?

As I stated previously, I have seen 300 leather upholstery & it is REAL leather !

Lokking closely at my recently purchased Leather interior, it, i believe is quite easily recognised as real leather faced, the sides and backs of the seats are vinyl. I have come to this conclusion, by a) comparing the grain of the face of the seats with that of the vinyl sides and rear - Leather is worn as you would expect, and vinyl bosts poorer leather effect grain. Secondly b) looking at the join between the seams and the edging beneath the seats, you can see where the vinyl is as it is stuck to foam backing, where as the leather is stitched to the foam backing...

I'll try and take some pictures for you all...

I Have the full black leather interior in my 360 with the black vinyl door cards, and it definatley is leather!!!!
