This site could do with a a real time chat section somewhere as part of the big update (if it ever happens

).
There's always a few of us online at a time and I reckon things could get quite lively sometimes

Very true, but a lot of us use the MSN messenger, so it often happens that we're chatting on there while browsing V3M! Most of the hotmail or MSN addresses are in peoples profiles that have put them up on show, or at the bottom of their posts. It might be easier for those without MSN, or on PC's elsewhere that don't have it installed.

I've been thinking for a while we ought to have an AIM chatroom like TBricks. I know not that many people use AIM (AOL Instant Messenger...like MSN...it's the standalone version of the instant message module built into the AOL software...but it can do group chat too), but it's kinda neat.
The fancy part compared to group chats on MSN is that you can have a room named after your group that anyone can join (who knows what it's called). It's more like an IRC-style chatroom in that regard. MSN chat groups can be a little cliquey by virtue of the fact that only the people on each others lists know to invite them.
A link could be placed in a sticky in one of the forums, making it truly open access. It's also handy, in that there's a 'warn' function when Hugh starts talking about MPG, or when Mick starts rustling his raincoat.
cheers

sky uses ventrilo all the time when playing internet games ,
trouble is you end up looking like one of those prats with a blue tooth ear piece talking to yourself all the time lol
( by the way see the new Lee Evans dvd there is a brilliant piece on ther about blue tooth headset users, I hate them )

I have AIM for Mac (I think it's the lastest version) but I don't seem to have an address bar. The only way I can join chat rooms is to invite or be invited... any suggestions?

I meant the address bar of your web browser!

Yeah, sorry I disappeared, James - it was my turn to feed the baby apparently!
I'd still prefer a chat window available via the website. There are all sorts of competing chat clients AIM, MSN, Yahoo, ICQ - and some others I think. I kind of resent having to work round all these different pieces of software to talk to different people. It's not inclusive. Also, I'm an ancient old codger of the IRC generation and don't use these instant messaging services routinely. I DO log into V3M regularly, however.
Ebdl - I run a Mac too, so I try not to use MSN on the basic principle that Bill Gates is the sperm of the devil and everything that comes out of microsoft sucks donkey's ****s
An online chat window on the website is simple and readily available technology - why not have it?

With apple running Intel, the rest of us are one step closer to a system thats not only cheap, but actually "stable"
