English beer?

Post by Duvel78 » 28 Jul 2004 11:12 pm

For those who didn't unterstand my nickname, here is the explanation... (yes I like beer lol)

<----------------------------

We have a lot of (delicious) special beers in Belgium. I was in England years ago and I was disappointed about that.

The question is: is the english beer really good? sm56 sm4

we probably have more special beers than your country, but over here we tend to focus on beer (ie, ales, bitters and the like) whereas i believe on the continent you focus more on lager. personally i prefer lager, but most brits (particularly older, bearded types - dare i say - volvo drivers..) will disagree and tell you that ale is the best. for ale/bitter the truth is we cant be beat for variety.

We have more than 400 special beers... For a little country as Belgium, it's not too bad :P I don't know how much it's for UK.

The last special beers I have tried are "english-norman" beers, ( http://www.le-brewery.com/englishindex.html ), not bitter and very good! sm40

if you like that kinda stuff, you'd love a british beer festival - the one at my old uni alone had 200 beers - for a university!

Wow, that's what I like! sm40

You know where I live (Leuven or Louvain), there is the The Old Market Square also called 'The greatest bar of Western Europe'. In each house on that square there is a bar where you can drink beer. It's very funny by night because it's a student town and you can party there the whole night. There are traditions like trying to drink beer in each bar but it's too difficult sm59 sm81 sm75 You can also try what we call "rafales", different beers you have to drink, you begin with a low % of alcohol and it increases more and more... Traditions like that are funny :P Oh and I forgot, INTERBREW is based in Leuven...

Oh I forgot to explain the name 'The greatest bar of Western Europe', it's because it's the square with the biggest concentration of bars in Europe! :P
