The trouble you cause!!!

Post by KeithB » 30 Jul 2004 05:06 pm

Before I logged into this site I confess to letting my car degenerate thinking that it would not pass its test and that I'd have to look for another car :( . Now I have a test certificate for 2 years and a group of people interested in the 300 Volvo, 340pw so now I'd better clean up my act and smarten up the car  So this weekend I'll take a trip to seek out replacement parts, new filters, oil etc., I have a pot of paint in the shed, so it's out with the sandpaper and fillers, in no time I'll have my old :340: back in shape!

I do have a small problem, a rear door no longer locks. The central locking motors on the rear doors failed some time ago, as I very rarely use the rear of the car I left them as "manual" (I confess the main car is a Toyota  ). However, when I checked the doors after parking I found that one rear door will open when "locked". After taking off the trim I can see that a connecting rod is no longer attached, my fingers are far to big to reach in and removing the handle was of no help, any ideas?

Great forum :D , very friendly keep up the good work.

Volvos go on and on.

Removing the handle was of no help? sm14 How is it possible! I have removed and installed the central locking on a 360, I just had to remove the handle, plug everything and put it back! (5 minutes) The only "difficult" thing was the wiring, that was annoying to install!

Pleased you could see the funny side

5lab - I saw your pictures, you forgot to mention the home made "whitewall" tyres!!!!

I'll get back into the door sometime, the lock screws unfortunately no longer have screw heads with which to remove them, I think that this would make the whole job simpler!

Oh! Must tell an old 340 story! I was working in an old Victorian Hospital some years ago, there was a roundabout with lovely cast iron lamposts in the entrance. I heard an almighty bang so ran out and found a 340 had been reversed into one of the lamposts which was virtually uprooted. The lady driver was distraught saying that she'd slipped on the clutch. Looking at the back of the car the bumper had a small crease in it, no other damage. This is a tough car :o
