What angers you..?

Post by Andy's-Old-Beast » 09 Apr 2006 10:09 pm

Here's one that's sure to get some lively responses: we're all on here because we're passionate about our cars, so chances are most of us are passionate about driving.

So (unless this has been done before - I did a quick search of topics) let's hear about the road behavior of others that gets you into a rage? Vent it all here and get it off your chest - it feels good! (keep an eye on the swearing though!)

I'll start the ball rolling with all the daydreamers who hog the middle lane on 3-lane motorways. It's a simple enough rule: pull back into the left lane when you are finished overtaking. But it has so many people foxed! How much traffic is held up when there is a queue of cars waiting to pass some tool doing 65 in the middle lane, with nothing to the left of or in front of them for miles? Move over FFS! Grr!

Middle lane hogs is a big annoyance for me too. Fog lights being abused is another. Whether its in the day time (why??), or at night (especially when just sidelights and fogs are used) it really annoys me. It's normally considered to be young drivers that do it, but I see loads of older people in the bland rep mobiles doing it too.

Tailgaters is another one. If I'm on a single carriageway road I'll often just slow right down to annoy the person doing it. If I'm in a quick car I'll also accelerate off when I get to an overtaking opportunity - really immature I know, but makes me smile.

When speed goes up and down without reason and driver seem to be just passenger, that is what makes me bit angry, should be penalized activity, imo.

Also that is annoying when some lunatics join to main road from smaller road so that I need to hit brakes as they first turn ahead of me maybe less than 100 meters and then they accelerate so damn slowly, they drive maybe 5km same direction, usually less and then they turn away from main road and there would been several kilometers empty road behind and before me.

Then one pretty annoying type is this that drives 90kph no matter what speed limit says, when it is 100kph they are too slow and when there is 80kph limit they overtake and are again front of me, if there is short 60kph limit they just blast away doing 90kph. Is it really too hard for them to keep eyes open and pay attention to speed limits?!
It is no problem if they would drive 110kph when there is 100kph limit, but no, it is same speed all time.

In a city this type seem to be driving 20kph over limits and when city limits ends they reach that 90kph maybe in 5km distance, what?! moped engines in their cars? Well, these are just typical passengers at driver seat, they don't understand what means proper speed to certain situation, no they are very passive and very dangerous drivers, they will have accidents and afterwards they can't explane why, they are blaiming road etc. but the truth is they were not driving their vehicles!

Ok, I get sometimes angry at traffic, but I have learned to sit back and look morons make morons from themself, not my problem, I leave good space to them as when moose jumps to road they will not understand what happened, but I can stop on time before hitting anything or then I'm overtaken them and already at home

I think that we do have only 2-lanes to one direction motorways here, at least I have not driven anykind other ;)
Well, when I'm driving I'm usually going past some city, for example Kuopio (Bit over 120 000 residents, considered large city), there I usually take left lane (overtaking) and I don't see usually anyone faster, but several slower cars, typically speed limit is 100kph, some places 120kph and other cars seem to be driving 100-70kph, some of them seem to have difficulties to maintain their speed, maybe too small engines?

I think that if you guys from London area would visit here, you would ask where everyone are when we have rush hours
For example, I drove once around 80km trip nearby here and I saw maybe 30 cars and this is not yet most quiet area, but maybe quite average ;)

During daytime you can see from here my area traffic, I live near that city of Varkaus (free translation = Theft, funny name)

Do you have similar cameras/service in UK?

One thing that really pisses me off is people that leave there indicators on after signalling!!!! I was flashing at one bloke for like 10miles the t£%t!!!! The other is those that dont bother to indicate at all!!
One other thing is on a two lane roundabout the people that cut the corner so you cant go where you actually want to go, either that or they are in the wrong lane in the first place!!!!

Here is no two lane roundabouts, well to closest one I have around 100km, but ppl cut turns here, let's say that road turns left, they drive middle of the road, and turn right when they encounter other vehicle. Well, here is quite small roads and at winter there is forming kind of rails to ice and those rails go then middle of road at corners, where you can't see more than 50 meters and still going 80kph, again passive passengers on driver seat :?

1) Tailgaters
2) People who become your braking zone
3) People who can't maintain a constant speed on the motorway - especially when they speed up when you start overtaking after they look at their speedo for the first time in 10 minutes
4) People who misuse their lights
5) People who are generally unaware of what's going on
6) People who get annoyed when I use the whole length of a lane that's being closed and merge at the end in order to reduce tailbacks. Especially when there are signs explicitly saying "Use both lanes."
7) People who are so selfish that they won't allow traffic to "merge in turn" (see 6)

...I'll have to stop there, I'm starting to feel tetchy myself

People who don't indicate at roundabouts - roundabouts don't work if no one knows where each other are going!

Tailgaters, especially on motorways when I know I'm faster than them but I'm stuck in a queue.

People who don't know how to use passing places on single track roads - ie tourists in the highlands of Scotland.

People who wont get out of the way of our rapid response vehicle when we come up behind them at 100 miles an hour with two seperate sirens howling and a myriad of blue flashing lights.

hmmm, that's my tutor's website. Have to wonder why a High Performance/Embedded computer person wants a page full of the city's traffic cameras....

Nope, it's not just Finland

Most of these mentioned above:
  • Cyclists
  • People who don't indicate on roundabouts
  • Cyclists
  • People who sit at queues with their foot on the brake pedal and blind me with their ultra-bright brake light
  • Cyclists
  • People (usually tradesmen) who believe they can park wherever they like (double yellows, etc.) so long as they flash their hazard lights. There's usually something behind them, so it looks like they are indicating to pull out.
  • Cyclists
  • People who realise that it is illegal to use a mobile phone while driving, but don't realise that you can't park on double yellows at rush hour in order to answer a call
  • Cyclists
  • Lorry drivers who insist on overtaking other lorry drivers at a relative speed of 0.01mph, thus blocking the motorway's middle lane for hours at a time.
  • Cyclists
Oh, and while I'm at it:

 Cyclists
  • Affie - 1987 340 GL 1.7 - scrapped
  • Sausage - 1990 340 1.4 - banger raced
  • Rory - 1989 340 Image - broken
  • Brian - 1991 940 SE 2.0 Turbo Estate - murdered
  • Geraldine - Kia Venga

There's nothing wrong with cyclists per se, just that alot of the things they do are annoying, like blocking the road.

The most annoying thing is tailgaters, I worry about my car :( It's worst on the motorway when all you can see is the the logo on a trucks grill :(

On the other hand I hate people who get in your way and won't pull over. I know I'm a slow driver, and I pull over if someones behind me. Sometimes on country lanes you get stuck behind a tractor, and they don't pull over at passing places to let you through.

People who can't reverse. If you meet somone on a single track country lane and they can't reverse to a passing place :(

Tailgating is easy to fix...it involves excessive use of the right hand pedal.

My main source of annoyance on the roads are people whose minds are elsewhere. Kids (more than anything else!), shopping, TV tonight, make-up....driving is far too concentration intensive to allow your mind to wander.

Misuse of (especially poorly adjusted) foglights is annoying too, yes...RUPERT!

Actually, poorly adjusted lights in general are a pet hate. HIDs don't need to be dazzling - it's just half the twonks whose cars have them seem to be aiming them at the sky...

cheers

Hmm, a guy in the rally club moaned about my lights, thought I had my grill on following him, then I put the grill on to prove I didn't ;) I level my own lights up, using a mark I made on the wall from some directions I found ages ago, and they pass MOT.

Retard cyclists are a good one, I was one, then once I started driving, realised how much I couldn't be seen, and sorted that out.
