My 340 DL

Post by Tom » 05 Aug 2004 08:42 pm

Here are some pictures of my pride and joy..it's an '88 340DL with the 1.4 engine. I'm sure you'll agree, this has to be one of the best examples of a 340 in the UK, if not the world ;). I'm having a little trouble with the engine, it runs a little jumpy with no choke. I haven't really had the time to properly look at it but I'm hoping it's nothing serious. :)

Here she is:

Nope..this is it's internet debut..my grandfather bought it new in 1988 from a Volvo dealer and it's been his since..which explains both the good condition of the car and the ding in the bumper..he reversed it into a lamp post a few years back..

Meh, seriously, though, it's great other than that. :)

Beautiful looking 340, shines up well, do you use "back to black" or something on the bumpers? Mine used to be registered as F527 WNG and was originally resistered in August 1988, after looking at the pics I'll have to invest in some colour retorer and polish, after the rust treatment, straightening the dents etc.

Exactly right...it's from Turtle Wax and it does a grand job, as displayed here. ;)

Thank you everyone for all your comments!

Yeah "white" become bumpers on a 340 is one of the most horrible thing I find... sm1 Black - dark grey from the origine is beautiful...

To tell the truth, I was tempted to use shoe polish after my supplies of Back to Black ran out, but I decided that I could put up with greying bumpers until I got some more. If shoe polish really is as effective as you say, I might just run the risk of trying it out the next time BTB runs out.

PS: I just found out, also, that BTB is great on tyres. Is shoe polish as well, or have you not tried that yet?

Trick we used to use for concours with the Polo was to rub used engine oil(the blacker/dirtier, the better)into the bumpers every other day for 2 weeks, After this time, wipe off the excess and rub over with armor all to seal it all in. Works a treat! :D

Last time I used ordinary salad oil.
Much cheaper than most common products and great result.
I would like to upload a picture to demonstrate it, but I don't
know how to do that.
