I've got my tank nearly fully set up now (well... it was a good distraction from exam revision and coursework...) Just a few more things to sort with it, but heres a few pictures
Tank:
School of neons (currently 7)
Couple of guppies
And a pair of pygmy puffers

They're great, really relaxing... now just wish I'd had them for the difficult part of this year!

I've only had them in there since saturday, but they are more aggresive than I was expecting. I knew the puffers were going to be fin nippers, but seems the guppies just keep them at bay. I have 3 males, but luckily nothing serious yet, all fins are still intact.

ah ha ,you see Chris the guppies are very randy little so and so's .
iirc its best to have more females than males so there is plenty of pootang to go around then the males tend not to bother with each other to much.
its even been suggested that the males nip the other males fins to make them look like females,
How big is the tank ?
are you going to introduce any cat fish to help keep the glass clean ?
I had a couple of plecostomus cats
and bronze corydoras
that was in a communal tank with guppies , neons ,cardinals ,silvertips and a few gouramis another favourite of mine
trouble is the plecys grew to about 12 inches long and even though it was a four foot tank they kept stirring up the gravel
I have also kept oscars
which grew to well over a foot and piranha

Yeah, tis true about the guppies Mick, I was going to get 2 females and one male, but the shop was shy on females
The tanks a 2ft one, so I could possibly put some females in after those lot have settled a bit.
I will get a cat of some kind, but I reckon a plec would outgrow th etank too quickly, great beasties they are though, used to have a hoooge one at home. Never kept gourmis, but do have oscars and red bellies on the island, I did really want one or a pair of oscars, they are an amazing fish, but again I thought they'd outgrow the tank too quick. It's also the first time I've kept the tank, and not me Dad, so thought probably better to stick with something easier!
