What you used to drive.

The 'music' thread has veered slightly - so how about a specific for past drives.

Redline expressed interest in my van (sorry no pix survive of the hogged bike)

The van was a '71' CF (ex 2.0lt). It gained a B27E (V6) with K jetronic and a BW55 auto box. Amongst other robbed Volvo bits were early 300 rear lamps (mounted vertically), load levelling rear suspension, Volvo R Sport dash cluster (the 200 series type with 6 dials). 260 rad, 200 grill, lots of Volvo electrics etc.etc. Also H/C running water, fridge (for the beer), cooker etc.

I was a founder menber of 'Insanity Vans' in Suffolk and we travelled all over
France ,Belgiun, and Holland showing Johnny foreigner how to party. You could do that in the eighties you know !! (we even got banned from Townsend Toreson - but thats another story).

The following show the engine going in.

Another odd creation (I used to have a workshop on a farm).
Anyone remember the BMC JU250 ? - not one like this you don't.!!

Finally at the European Truck-in near Antwerp in '81' (yes I had hair then).
Image

And at 'Insanity Vans' Radiation Run in '83' (held next to Sizewell A Nuclear power station) - Strange mutated beings (me and the wife) emerge from the darkness to terrorise the local community! (outfits dyed with flouescent compound so they glowed in the dark). The local pub freaked. !!

Who said I was the nearest thing to 'normal' round here ??

Well, I'm afraid to say my previous vehicle history is somewhat short, being only 21, and having been brought up on Volvo's. It comes nowhere near to being as interesting as Mac's! Nice pics mate. One Fiat Cinquecento SX M reg, 899 cc of pure power. For such a small car it shifted, great fun and I'd imagine the 1.1 sporting to be even more fun! I bought it to learn to drive in, and as it was the cheapest thing I could insure. I then got a 360 GLT, ran both for a while and everyone thought I was mad getting rid of the newer car to keep the Volvo. As most people know, I didn't stop at just one 360 GLT though.........

mac, that lot is pure class ,

I used to go to all the custom car shows especially at ally pally and knew a guy called John Baldachino who built the fordson van speed freak and Hot n bothered , I remember some great creations in those days including a transit with like a bedouin theme ( tent etc ) in the back

Image

I was a member of the Harrow , Watford and Hemel Hempstead cruisers and was often at the chelsea and later the southend cruises before the boy racers and chavs moved in , I will have to find some pictures of my old rides and scan them

Hmm previous history (vehicles) - lets see:

1969 VW Type One (Bug), a steep learning curve on motor maintenance - so bad I have still got it :D
1972 VW Type Two - currently being refitted to a more 'interesting specification' (it may outrun a 360GLT)
1997 VW Polo - Bright Green and modified (much fun - 1050cc of pure power)
2001 Daewoo Matiz - I know, I was trying to be sensible
1976 VW Type Two Viking - back to normal (still got it)
1987 Volvo 340GL - Taxi ripped front off - anyone good at welding? (I have the parts)
1987 Volvo 360GL - Bulkhead went at speed - now a teaching car on a local farm (I have got first refusal on it)
1989 Volvo 360GLT - my current and RED (not pink) daily driver
1990 Volvo 940GL (with accessories, and deep deep alloys fitted, watch this space)

and finally yes - I do still own six of the cars (I am a sentimental person) I also know where two of the others are at this time :D

I think that is it - but I am not sure

When I just had my licens, now almost 6 years ago I bought a fiesta. We managed to wreck it within one weekend. After that I had a BMW 320i (I know, small mistake). The best one was the Citroen that came after that. It was a mk2 16v. That thing was to fast for its, and my, own good. Blew the headgasket...ffs. Then I went and wandered of and bought me a old white 360 saloon. Loved it so much, I bought a better one with almost all the good options you can have. It's now in the garage for major overhaull. In the meantime I drive a buttugly mitsubishi lancer from '87. It does do 17km to one litre though. That's like 37 miles to the gallon i think.

Here's a list of my previous cars:

1986 1.0 Austin Metro City - in Gold, oh yes... given to me, only had it for 3 months til the MOT ran out.

1991 Skoda Favorit Estate LS - free and owned for over a year, great fun and very reliable.

1994 Skoda Favorit LXi - bought on ebay for £120 specced up from my previous estate, sold for nearer £400 when I bought the black 360.

1988 Volvo 360 GLT - the black car, owned for a year, til the diff incident

1989 Peugeot 405 - owned for a month, comfy, refined, smooth - but dull.

1987 Volvo 360 GLT- the rusty saloon :)

I love em... I want to get an XJS with the V12... but trying to find one that hasn't rusted is a bit of a mare. '80s Jags arn't exactly well rustproofed.

My cars:

1991 340 GL - Kar - Main driver for 5 years till the nice garage made it sound like a marraca, becoming Fast Kar

1989 340 GL - Fake - Had for 3ish years, made a good garden gnome for 2 1/2 of those, been brought into dailey driver usage for a while, might become Fake Rally Kar

1989 360 GLT - Beast - On a G plate, shot downpipe, hence the name. Drove as a second car for a couple of months (Kar was playing up for some reason...) but a tad too rusty to save, so got stripped

1989 480 Turbo - Krap Kar - so useless I took it back after 50 minutes...
