what a result !!!!!!
i dont often have good luck come my way but I have always thought it pays to check through all the paper work when buying a car ,
just picked up a mk2 Golf GTI that had a bit of a rear end shunt needing a tailgate ,did an HPI check that came back clean.
the guy I got it from ( a part time dealer ) had bought it for his wife and had already replaced the back and front bumpers with the later bigger ones.
He then decided to sell it as is with NO MOT to finance a golf mk1 gti cabriolet he had found.
He told me the mot had run out July 2006 .and showed me the old mot with a load of previous ones
Got it home only to discover tucked away in with the owners hanbook , a bill of sale from a garage for £790 dated three months ago and an MOT dated to expire ( wait for it ) June 2007 RESULT !!!!!!
then I found a nearly new jvc 12 disc shuttle in the boot and a matching head unit with remote control less the fascia panel,
not bad considering I only paid £170.00 for it and once the tailgate has been replaced I have a buyer lined up for £600.00

like every one else on here I am trying to find Krista a manifold ,
what I cannot understand is how this could happen to a car that was mot'd at the end of March and then only used until 23rd May (when we got the calibra ) a total of seven weeks on the road before I stopped using it .
Nothing was mentioned about the exhaust at the mot station
(and obviously the exhaust condition and emissions are checked as part of the test )
I did point Krista in the direction of the 1.7 that Mick T 's friend was getting rid of which I believe is still available and is in Kent so not far from her home in Surrey ,
hopefully one will turn up very soon.
none of my local breakers has a 300 let alone a 1.7.
Breakers around here tend to crush them as soon as they come in ,probably one of the downfalls in living in such a young city where older cars dont seem to be appreciated unless they are hot hatches.
Perhaps they should change the road signs from welcome to Milton Keynes to welcome to Chavsville

itseems my luck is continuing at the moment , got rid of my other folding camper yesterday and have reinvested the money in this
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... %3AIT&rd=1
its almost mint and has been stored in a carpeted garage for 3 years (has been started and driven around the block regularly ), so lets see what happens with the mot , was abit unsure of it being as its an auto but there is a market for them and the guy that do's my valeting reckons its worth about £600
Chris ( sky )has just sold his blue 1.6 golf he paid £300.00 for for £525.00

Good work Mick! you're turning into a right wheeler dealer!
Krista's found a manifold now, so with any luck the Redline will be back on the road sometime soon!!
We bought a new car yesterday too, and I never thought I'd say this - but we got a Nova! It's a 1.5 TD, and apart from being povery spec it's actually pretty good. i reckon it could keep up with my GLT!!

Is it the one you can start by pulling the hazard light switch and re-inserting it upside downCarl wrote:Good work Mick! you're turning into a right wheeler dealer!

I don't miss my nogo at all, the only plus side to it was that you can replace all the bits under the bonnet that get melted when they catch fire for under 10 quid, and get a matching bonnet for about 15!

Drive's like a shopping trolley though. Yuck. Needs a decent steering rack, decent brakes and bigger tyres then it would be ok! And yes it does weigh bugger all - because most of the bodywork rusts away!
No idea about the hazard switch trick, I'll give it a try
(although being a diesel it probably wont work)
So whats the plan with the Golf now Mick?
