My 340DL

Post by Carl » 17 Jan 2004 12:47 pm

After breaking my previous car (a Peugeot 205XS)
i decided i was going to get something cheap that would last a few months until i could afford
something better - that car was the 340 DL. To be quite honest i was not expecting much, but
this car pleasantly surprised me. Its not in the best condition, but the engine is sound and it
drives nice and smooth, although not that quickly.
I have been rallying at a grassroots level for 3 years now, and have had quite a few different
cars, but this was my first RWD one, and i have to say it is great fun when the roads are wet
and slippery as they are now. Its really taught me how to drive a RWD car! In a couple of
weeks i will be doing a small (~60 mile) road rally in it, and then in mid-February i will be doing a
'National B' Road Rally Championship round in it (~180 miles over night), which i am really
looking forward to. Hopefully i will be able to post a few photos of me going a bit sideways
from the event!
It's got many flaws, but its quirky character and fun factor more than make up for this. In a
few months i'm even tempted to find a 2.0i version instead of my planned 205GTi. From a
long term Peugeot fan thats big praise!
Long live the Volvo 340!

Rallying 340

Post by mjkenyon » 17 Jan 2004 01:22 pm

Where in the UK are the rallies you'll be
competing in? I reckon that I could bring a few mates to cheer along a fellow 340 driver - and
get some photos for you.

Unfortunately the route is not disclosed to hardly anyone
before the event, since its a navigational road rally (ie you have to work out the route as you
go).
Luckily there's normally an ofiicial photographer (who is the one of the 3 people to get the
route beforehand, along with the police and the MSA), so hopefully i'll get a few decent shots
from him. I normally do!!
The event is called 'The Kent', and suprisingly in takes part in Kent

That's a good decision sm89 sm4 , forget the Peugeot 205, you'll have much more fun with
a RWD like... the 340pw
Say to the photographer to take only pictures of your Volvo 340 because the Volvo 300 Mania
community is expecting a good report of the event!
