340 three door , door seals / rubbers - not available

Post by shimon340 » 27 Nov 2006 02:31 pm

Hi!

The door rubbers seals for the three door are now no longer available.

Im asking in the demand section to see if anyone has some but am posting here for another reason.

The cars seals are completely flat - ie offereing no padding / sealing at all.

I've not seen this before on a 3 or 5 door. I went to a breakers yard on sunday and the three door they have there is exactly the same!

Now these arent available, any ideas what we can do for new ones?

Anyone know any aftermarket companies? restoration companies that make these seals that we can buy to length?
Enjoy your 300s

I would guess that any industrial shop which sells rubber products, hoses, hydraulic stuff, plexiglass, polyurethane bars etc... will sell those door seals also.

I bought mine from the local industrial shop called "Etola."

http://www.etola.fi/products.php
http://www.etola.fi/teollisuusetola/

It cost 4€/meter so not too expensive. (It would've been 80€/door from the dealer )

There were seals with all kinds of profiles available.

Though I don't know what hydraulic/industrial shops you got over there and what sells those seals, but at least in here you can find that stuff from the similiar shops. :)

try Frosts (www.frost.co.uk), under interior trim they list a couple of different types of door/bootlid type seal that might be suitable?

Side Seal - 1 Metre Length

Product Code U471

That looks suitable and probably is, it depends what's the size of the metal reinforced part. :P But my guess is that it will fit.

hello again!

The Frost product looks like it might be a little to 'shallow' is not proud enough to seal the door fully. Really the only way is to get a small test piece and have a look! In the pic it looks a little too small. I'll keep you posted on the results! thats for the info Fuse.

Fuse, dya have more info on the product you bought as I cant seem to find it on their website!

Maybe I'll email them a pic of the rubber seal and some measurements.

could be a very useful contact for other volvos too!

all the best

Hey, Shimon

I've been looking into buying door seals again. The only place I can find online are those http://www.automobiletrim.com/. I'm replacing trim on my Mk2, don't know if Mk3's have a different profile.

So, for my 3 door I need 4 metres per side of No. 180/Rubber Door Seal
Image
at £2.90 per meter, 8 meters = £23.20 + VAT = £27.26

For the boot I need another 4 meters of BS/64 Trunk Weatherstrip
Image
Again at £2.90 per meter, 4 meters = £11.60 + VAT = £13.63

This adds up to £40.89 + carriage, which is not bad. Unfortunately, automobiletrim have a minimum order pre VAT of £40, which is bloody irritating, which leaves me a fiver short. I would love to shop elsewhere just out of principle but can't find any other suppliers with the right profile.

Anyone in for a group buy?

That reminds me, I was at a local car show earlier in the year and there was a company called Phoenix supplies that makes rubber trim, seals and extrusions for all sorts of things and I wondered if they could be of any use for 300 parts. Unfortunatly they don't have a website, but I picked up a leaflet.

It says they make stuff for vehicles, trailers, boats, caravans, helicopters, planes, medical instruments, garage, household and business trade. And they offer a sourcing service and can source from over 1,000 trims if provided with a sample.

Dunno if they could be any use, but if anyone wants to try, Tel: 01884 849294 E-mail phoenixsupplies(a)hotmail.com

I did a search and didn't find much, except they make windscreen trims for Triumph Dolomites if anyone's interested. I know we have one Dolly owner ;)
