Newbie from holland volvo 360 2.0 injection, drift car?

Post by danielvanderwoude » 16 Feb 2007 11:32 pm

Hello all!

I am Daniel from Holland, would like to introduce my car here with some pictures:

I bought it in Januari being the 3rd owner now, I got al the repair bills wich the last owner collect since 1994!!
It has driven 210.000 km, 4 doors sedan version in red.

I was able to sell my BMW 325i from 1986 with a profit after driving is almost 2 years. I bought the volvo for temporary but I have so much fun with it I will keep it! I am used to faster cars though.. (honda vtech, swift gti and the bmw) so my plan is to make it a little faster!

This is what I have done so far:
- stripped the interior; back seats, roof lining, all sound and heat material
- fitted a power airfilter, with ram-air (see pictures)
- undid the EGR
- undid the pulse air
- white 14 inch wheels
- cut 1 coil from original front spring
- mounted (red) adjustible koni schockabsorbers with load-adjuster
- painted the (stripped) interior black

Plans:
- lowering the rear
- bucked seats
- seatbelts
- deep dish steering wheel
- mud flaps
- try a migdiff / welded diff, 100% sper
- 16v engine NA or turbo engine

Please let me know your ideas and tips!!!

Good work on finding the adjustable Koni shocks! Looks good and glad you're enjoying the car. Looks like you might need to get onto the rust prevention around the front valance. Some Dintrol on that should stop the rust getting any worse.

Looks really nice, but those air intakes look a bit low. Look out for puddles of water!

I don't like 4doors 300 but I like that one!

Lower it a bit more and paint the bumpers in red...

Where have you found that konis?!?!?!

There are some 300's that came with painted bumpers from factory

Can you answer my question about the konis? :)

You would need to find really deep water to have problems with air intake, I had similar setup except I used single large pipe that did connect to original filter box and there was no grill mesh or anything like that, also it was more or less tight seal to air filter box end so I got little bit of extra air to engine with that, did not need as much throttle when cruising on highway and intake temps were very low.

That air filter setup and air tubing looks good to me, often free flow filters are installed so that they take hot air from exhaust manifold, actually losing power instead of gaining. Of course I'm not fan of such filters anyway, they don't actually filter so well and as original air filter is good to at least 400hp, I never saw reason why I would need one, even I did had pretty bad filter setup at one point.

Edit: Forgot to mention about ram air, you don't seem to have one, fresh air intake would be more appropriate term 8)
Let me explain, in ram air idea is to increase pressure at intake side, this is done so that air flow caused by car moving is directed to intake, now problem you are having is that you loose all pressure with your setup, to make it work like a ram air you should make air box around filter and make air tight connections between that box and those air tubes, then it would be ram air.

Together with well designed ram air intake and ram intake manifold you could get even 20% more HP, with cone filter and fresh air intake, maybe 5 at most, I would say.

Sorry if I sound like bitching, was not intention, just correct minor details

I had a similar sort of setup on my clio but going to the standard airbox (with ITG filter in) and never had any problems with it getting filled with water and I drove it through fords and all sorts

Did you ever measure pressure in box?

I did measure 3kpa (from 100 to 103) increase at 80kph, but I had not perfectly sealed connection between tube and airbox, there could be much more that I could have gained, but never got around to make it better at the end.

Yes ofcourse I can... it might not be an answer you are hoping for though.. I found them on the dutch "ebay" called 'www.marktplaats.nl'
I payed 80 euro`s for it. well worth the money. I will post a link when they appear again. If you want I can try and find the phone number for you.

do you think they are better than spax?

I never measured box pressure but the box temperature was the same as the ambient air temp all the time, whereas without the ram air it was ~10 degrees higher, and with a cone filter on ~20 degrees higher.

Same experiences, it did work out pretty well as an ambient temp gauge too, once when I arrived to area where had been very short thunder shower temp dropped from +25 to +15 very quickly in few hundred meters and car felt clearly more responsive too :D
