Differences in Rear light clusters?

Anyone explain please? On some of the pictures of members cars in the gallery the rear light cluster seems to have a sloping reversing light lens fitted in the cluster - on others the reversing lens seems to blend in line across the top and facing with the rest of the lenses. From trawling around the web it would appear that the sloping reversing light lens makes a get away every now and again never to be seen again. What is the difference between the clusters please? Is it simply down to a later model when a change took place in the design - Ive seen in the forums reference to Mk II and MK III's but am not sure what date one replaced the other and what the differences were.

Ok all Mk II cars has the drop lights, the Mk III cars have the split top/bottom arrangement - I hope thats what you were trying to work out, I think the change was around 1985/86

Yup, as 990 said the MK1 and 2 had the same rear clusters, with a full height reversing light, and from memory, all other lights are also full height.

There's a really good post on the differences from a while back, I'll have a look through and see if I can find it, might be worth making a sticky.

I thought the Mk1 had the ford rear light unit.

The only rear pics of mk1's I can find are unlinkable... but they definately have the same lights as the mk2's. Maybe earlier ones, do you have a pic of the unit Dai?
