Maybe a new 340...

Post by Duvel78 » 19 Aug 2007 10:27 pm

My 360 GLT needs some maintenance and attention, I don't want to do it too quickly but I need a car asap because I move in less than a month.

Sooo... I have found this:

A lovely 340 DIESEL 3 doors :D

It must be fun to drive a car with the half of horsepower :D Nice experience I think for a Volvo300maniac....

Well done, Mr Duvel sir. That must surely be the sign of a true volvo300maniac - driving even the most uncool of 300's - the Diesel. 8)

I'm sure it will be a therapeutic experience - more haste, less speed, he who is last shall be first, etc, etc ... :D

Fixed!

The only way we'll allow you to keep that car is if you rip out the 1.6 and replace with a 1.9TDi from a 440.

I was in Amsterdam last week for a few days and was hoping to see lots of 340s. maybe coz I was in the city centre but I only saw 2 the time I was there... an no volvo 66s... saw some nice 164s, 140s and a 242 :) though
Enjoy your 300s

I go away for a few days, and all the cheeky comments start :P I reckon its cos you're all jealous, and anyway....I just like to drive within the law...something all you hooligans conveniently bend.

Anyhow, my little car held 115 mph (real speed on a GPS, not indicated) on a maximum speed run up the derestricted Autobahn, up a slight hill. I lifted off after that because although it was still picking up speed it was slow and the temperature needle was starting to creep.

Aymat that diesel is going to be the slowz0rz. I agree with Rupert, it needs to have at least the 1.8 turbodiesel from the 440, the original 1.6 NA is going to be like driving a tractor, except even slower :(

CAV Roto Diesel. Veg oil is too thick for this type of fuel pump, unless you pre heat it to 70 - 100 degrees, and that's probably a bit impractical :-)

well ours runs fine on it, its a lot of hearsay, not many people have really tryed it or done it right,

this is about right, u need a tiny bit more white spirt than they say but it works great 29p/l isnt bad at all.

if u have any questions fire away, it works great.

Cheers

29p a litre! :D Sounds like a good, cheap way to get around ...

I have to say I have no practical experience with veg oil whatsoever. But my mate Google reckons:
diesel engines fitted with rotary CAV/Lucas pumps, or pumps which follow their same general design including those made by Delphi, Rotodiesel and Stanadyne, are generally unsuitable for conversion
This heat exchanger is Not recommend for diesel vehicles with the following Injection pumps Lucas, Cav, Delphi, Standyne and Roto diesel
Injection pumps from Bosch, Diesel-Kiki, Nippon-Denso or Zexel have shown the best results when operating on vegetable oil. Injection pumps from Delphi, Lucas, CAV, Stanadyne and Roto-Diesel are only partially suitable.
We do not suggest the conversion of engines equipped with distributor-type injection pumps manufactured by DELPHI, LUCAS, CAV, Stanadyne and Roto-Diesel.
