VERY interesting story. And it shows how different people's tastes are!

The new rims don't suit it at all IMHO ...

Tis true... imo the 'look' of that car was done, it just needed tidying but still - I'm very glad it's gone to someone who will look after it - it's a fantastic car!

Recomissioned in 2007 (having sat since 2001) it's been to North Wales, Scotland, the V3M peak district meet, the South Coast and who know's what distance over in the states - testement to 300 reliability! :D

Hmm, he wanted it because he wanted a daf 77...Thats not an daf 77  IMHO, the 76/77 were the only daf 77's. That was a complete design of DAF.

But great to see it go to an American! Weird it didn't go to the states originaly. The daf's did...

You're right, the most important thing is that it'll be looked after - someone who goes to all that trouble to ship it to the USA won't be running it into the ground ...

You're right too. Maybe he should have looked out for an early Mk1 with the Daf steering wheel and seats, and the brown dashboard. The "Mk II Phase 1" 343 had already been very much Volvo-ised. Adding GLT alloys to it only removes it from its Daf origins even more ... Better would have been hubcaps like these:

I think the problem Bob (the new owner) had was finding a pre 1982 (for tax reasons iirc?) 300 series car at all in good condition... so he ended up settling for a manual rather than vario what he really wanted.

Must be one hell of a rare sight over there! :D

My mk2 3-door, that I must admit I bought in the new year simply to save it from the crusher, I've been thinking I should get it done over this next winter - arches, wings, repair to front valance etc - and with the spoiler and nice spec it would look great wearing a set of mk2 GLT alloys....

I agree. Or a set of 14" MkII GLT steelies - they looked pretty good too ...

Bob:
first of all, it's great to see someone going to such lengths to export a 300 to the USA! Glad to see the car's gone to a good home.

"Foam abominations" aren't everyone's cup of tea (remember the outcry when the last-but-one Alfa Spider came out, with the rubber spoiler on the bootlid?) but I did prefer the older style "Leo" rims. The "Hercules" wheels are just a little bit too new - they were standard equipment on higher spec saloons from '84 on, and were fitted to some special edition Mk III hatchbacks (like the redline).

But ultimately, it's your car and you make it look how you want it :-)

Best of luck

Tom
