27mm Whiteline swaybar.

Post by dalahare » 15 Oct 2007 04:26 pm

I've just bought one of these, i'm waiting on a link kit and then i'll fit it up, not much point fitting it with the old clapped out links.

27mm is pretty big, maybe too much so, but it was a local manufacturer so i thought i'd give it a try, i'm expecting the car to show more of a understeer bias at the limit, but if it means it might keep the back wheel on the ground on the way into corners and allow me to get power down a bit earlier it'll be a good tradeoff. at the moment the front end sags and rolls so much when coming hot into a corner that the rear inner tyre has stuff all weight on it and gets no grip when the throttle is applied.

It weights about 7kgs, it's very stiff, i can't flex it at all, where as a oem one off the back of another car i can easily get a few cm flex out of, and came with poly bushes, a grease bag and generic instructions.

Will let you know how it goes when it's all fitted.

Arn't those ends the 340 style? I thought the 60 went onto the struts? (Yeah, I know this topic is on here lots...) It's good to see parts though, although I'd also be a bit reserved as to how much understeer it adds, but tbh, can't comment until it's tried!!!

Nice! Maybe that is an investment for my car! Don't matter if it`s bit understreered as long as i still can get the ass out with the right attack of the corner!

Depends on the year i think, mine is a 85 model and doesn't fit to the struts.

$200 au from my local supplier, dunno why, but that was cheaper than their webstore, which was asking 220+gst(10%)+delivery.

That's what I thought, means it would fit mine ;) Let us know what it's like... I have a friend in Aus atm, but not convinced she'll want to bring one home with her!

It will fit any 340 or 360. All you have to do on the late model 360 is change the links to the 340 type. The holes are in all the bottom wishbone to take it.

27mm is a bit ott even on a 240 25mm is pleanty stiff enough.

Fitted it today, haven't driven it yet, here's some picks, anyone got any idea at what sort of tension i should tighten up the link bushes? just so they are barely tight? squash them a bit, squash them alot? i tightened them till i wasn't able to make them slide sideways on the lower wishbone anymore, then made the top ones roughly the same tension. this had them bulging just a bit.

The old link bushes were completely flogged out, i would have been getting a fair bit of body roll before the slack was taken up and the old swaybar even started working.

It also seems i bought these bits at a fairly special price, when i went to pick up the link kits today the lady was going nuts about them quoting her the wrong amount, and that she was seliing them to me for the same price as she bought them for, and that she's losing out on postage and gst...

8) It works  Car sits much flatter thru the turns, you can feel that it tends to understeer a little more thru the middle of the corner, but it feels more responsive on the way in, and because it stays flatter i'm not locking the inside rear on the way in under brakes, as it still has some weight on it, and can get the power on earlier, which in turn leads to some oversteer on the exit.

Also when recovering from a slide it used to rock slightly from side to side a couple of times and the rear tyres would take turns spinning, that feels as if it's been eliminated, this was all in the dry, so it'll be intresting to see how it feels in the wet.

I'm thinking rear shocks next, but also got to get some rear tyres at some stage too...
