I've been offered another 340 today, for not-a-lot. A 71K 88 E-reg 1.4 GL 'special edition' in petrol blue, genuine one-elderly-owner from new who gave up driving due to being unsafe!. It isn't perfect bodywise - o/s front wing is rotten around the arches, front valance has usual welding, dent in tailgate and o/s/r corner, little scabs here and there, but the interior is mint & the 1.4 engine runs incredibly quietly & smooth. Worth saving??

Hell yes

One leads to another, then another, if you've got the room, do it!

Every 300 is worth saving in one way or another, if only from the crusher for bits to run another one if the bodywork or mechanically side of things are far past economical repair or someone hasn't the time and money to restore it, as now so many scrap yards just crush as soon as they come in.

Do it... I've just got hold of an early mk2 343... and it's not been that cheap overall, but there's a lot of satisfaction to be had bringing back a car that would most likely be scrapped in the wrong hands!

I had someone knocking on my parents door to try and buy Kar on Saturday :o

It looks rough as atm too... especially as the front wheels have a good 4" of clearance to the arches with no engine weight!

Getting it tomorrow, got a tailgate sorted same colour from a 360 GLT so it will also get a magic spoiler! :D Also got a worn out red 1990 1.4 3-door today, the only decent panel it has is the tailgate, it's a non-runner with 230K on the clock. I'm gonna have the lights, bumpers etc as spares but if anybody needs a part from it let me know

Nice car really, shame it would need all the work I did to my G-reg to get the bodywork right..... Which would be impossible until Volvo get their parts system in order & repair panels become available again (i.e front crossmember). I'm trying to fathom why it was a 'special edition', I think it's 'cos May 88 GL's didn't come with sunroof's & a 'groovy key' as standard, I'm wondering if the pluch seats are actually GLE seats (my GLE has leather, so cannot compare)
Any specification experts?

Plush were only in the GLE on an E reg, didn't come standard in GL until 90/91 ish. What do you mean by a groovy key?

Is it not worth using as a daily? The amount of effort you've put into the other one, I'd imagine you don't want to leave it in carparks etc?

Yes, it's most definitely worthy of 'everyday' use, the G-Reg will be kept clean & dry & garaged etc, as will my GLE ltd edition (same as the one on the top right of this very page) when I mint that... I just have this strange desire to sort this one too lol. Anyone know of a way to repair the door tops effectively?? (usual bit of the rear doors!)

I've managed to source a r/n/s door in the same colour from the same GLT that's donating it's tailgate, so it's just the r/o/s with it's rather fetching square of black tape....
