Hello from Oz!!

Post by Ozbrick » 02 Jan 2008 02:14 am

G'day all!

Long time reader, just introducing myself!

I have just bought (30/12/2007) a Maroon 1985 B200 360GLT.

Car has central locking, alarm, pioneer 6 x 9's. I was looking for months and this particular model has a sweet clutch and gearchange, better than any of the other 3 I test drove. The camber on the back wheels looks nuts!

Having it's first service in 6 months next monday, hope nothing is broke!

My mechanic is an ex-Le Mans man (from England) and drives in the Formula Holden series in his own race car.

My previous ride was a 2002 Renault Clio Sport so I am used to good handling and zippy performance from my cars. The volvo has shedloads of torque and it uses bugger all fuel. I'll mainly be using it to commute to country areas for my mining work as a quality control officer. I'm a Forensic Scientist by trade.

I'm looking to change the induction system (personal preference) and the globes to LED ones, does anyone know what the headlights are?? H4??

Great forum guys!

Hi, and welcome to V3M

not sure about induction setup as I have not yet begun to think about mine, but 99% sure the bulbs are H4 (getting late, lol)

Cheers

Welcome to the mad house that is V3M ;)

Sounds like a good car, and it'll be even better if that mechanic is as good as he sounds.

Forensic Scientist eh, sounds exciting, but probably not quite as depicted in CSI :P

THanks for the welcome fella's will get pics up ASAP!

Yeah, Forensic stuff isn't all CSI, I've made the choice to follow the fortunes in Mining instead.

THe car in Aus is almost unknown, people ask 'What the hell is it?" "Is it front-wheel drive?"

HA HA!

Anyhoo, I'm hoping for it to kick some ass in sprints and hillclimbs in the 2000cc class. Last time I went out, I drilled all the Alfa's, Escorts and Datsuns in the Clio, so hopefully I can get this car going aswell.

As with most things in Oz, some parts will be custom (my mechanic can make customs baffled sumps, inlet manifolds and independant suspension setups) so may be pricey, but I have found looking through cataloges (Whiteline/Gabriel Shocks/K'n'N) the prices are pretty good.

From the pics I need a rear Volvo badge (any ideas?) and get the 1986 GLT spoiler from the wreckers.

Tested the fogs, they don't work, I'm looking for some globes as we speak....

Exhaust also rattles on idle, have to get a better backbox!

Hey I checked under the bonnet and the actual block of the engine is painted red (not the rocker cover though). Is this normal???

Also, the plate under the bonnet says the car weighs 1540kgs, whereas in the book, it ways like 1084 kgs. Which is right???

That's why they are called red blocks

My 1985 360 glt weights about 1150kgs according to a local weighbridge. it has that 1540kg plate under the boonet too, which also has some other figures in it, 2740, 750 and 310kg from memory, I presume the last two are braked and unbraked trailer loads. no idea what the other numers mean. 1540 might be the total maximum safe vehicle weight, as in occupants and luggage ect. :?

Why do you want the 86 onwards spoiler? i think ours looks better.

Nice one

2 bad my red block has become an 'orange' block thanks to the wrong paint being used.

MK III spoilers are the envy of the community :D

+1 ;-)

The Mk3 rear spoiler definitely looks good - on a Mk3. The rear window in the Mk2 tailgate is of a different, more rounded shape. It might look a bit odd with the later type spoiler on it, but I've never seen it done so maybe I'm wrong ...
