Ditch that 400 serie engine idea right away, if your going 4 pot diesel, take 1.6/1.9TD from VW, same engine as d24 only 2 cylinders less, 100hp/litre is very possible with some work, even more and with diesel it is not hp, but torque. Stock D5 would tear box, diff and drivetrain apart easily with good rubbers...

A company called Derv Doctor are claiming they can get 440lbft of torque from a VAG 1.9 diesel, so they are pretty strong lumps.

Also with diesel motor you should save a bit in fuel bill and it really is not so much more expensive, in long run it becomes cheaper.

Technology not familiar with and low rpm engines are weakest points, imo.

The worst thing about diesel engines is the noise. Everything else about them is great, but they'll never make a nice sound.

If it has more than 4 cyls it will sound nice, 6 is best for diesel, I rank it 3rd after V16 (no not that stupid W16, V16) and V8.

Faulty fuel pump in that one, klick Alkuperäinen video to see it if player does not work, for me player requires 2nd click to actually start playing video.

That is how it sounds completely stock, nothing like those vw 4 pots, which sound very bad indeed.

Guy that did fix pump, did promise 300 reliable horses (yes, from d24) and ton of torque being possible with his mods, he makes engines for tractor pulling too so I guess he knows what he is talking about.
Too bad d24 is impossible to shovel into 360 engine bay.

Here is another nice sounding diesel ;)

Nice sound here too, bit rough idle perhaps?

One problem with the D5 is it is going to be heavy and will tand to make a 340 go stright on rather than steer. This would be quite bad for drifting.

The derv engine is a good idea and coupled with LPG and a power aid would be imressive using a more modern lump.
