Exactly...although an M47 should handle 250+bhp, you'll have to be a little careful with how you drive it. With the Getrag, you can treat it with less respect :) They're very strong boxes, given how small they are. They also tend to have nice ratios.

cheers

Btw that same guy is the one responsible for that 300-series with Jaguar V12. The white one which pic has been floating around for ages. I read from an old topic that he built it in somewhere around '96 and '97 It had a Chevy 10 bolt 8.5" rear axle and finally he had twin turbos in it. :D There are build pics in thise topic http://www.300power.com/forum/index.php?topic=728.40

And if I read correctly he also has a Formula 1 replica which he has built himself.

Having a workshop like that and fabrication skills must help a lot :) Mark's (Bertiebandit) 142 resto / build is coming along quickly, bearing in mind that he's very busy. I guess knowing there's nothing to hold you back helps!

He found a 4-linked, reinforced de-dion axle with watts-link and upgraded drive shafts and cv-joints. It's from some old competition model 300-series. Bearings are also much larger.

He has driven ~300km with the new setup and says it's working great. Only minus is the louder noise of the new box (as it is a Getrag which are known to be quite loud) but it's hardly a minus.. Gear changes are sharp etc... works very well he writes. :P

I help Fuse to update this topic

Unfortunate, the drivetrain now is broken.
Peter did a 402-meter-race and got best time/speed: 12,533s @ 194,04 km/h! This with NOS on 3:d gear.

In the fifth run something in the drivetrain breaks.
Himself think it is the axle in the torque tube that has breaked in two..
Or the splines in the clutch-plate that has given after.

No one knows at the time beqause he has not taken a look yet.

True, thanks for the reminder. Im not so often here at V3M. 300 Power takes all the time

Here is the "weak" link of Peters driveline:

Broken transaxle:
http://www.300power.com/forum/index.php ... 1797;image

Nice surface at the "cut":
http://www.300power.com/forum/index.php ... 1799;image

If you look carefully you can se that the splines are twisted:
http://www.300power.com/forum/index.php ... 1801;image

And the cause to this is:

344 hp at 5026 rpm @ 495 nm at 4895 rpm! (Without NOS)
453 hp at 4851 rpm @ 686 nm at 4573 rpm! (Whith 100hk NOS)

All measured on the wheels and with 1.2 bar of boost!

The recipe:

Engine block: b230fk with oilcooled pistons.
Pistons: b230fk shopped 3mm because of the marine
crankshaft.
Crankshaft: Marine crankshaft -86 mm stroke = 2½ litre.
Pistonstakes: Big b230 stakes

Flywheel: Lightened original, modified for 184mm clutch

Clutch: Double-plate ap-racing 184mm, good for about 800nm

Head: 531-head, ported at intake & exhaust + modified
chambers, bigger stainless valves: in 46mm @ out 39mm.
Vx3 camshaft.
Compressionratio 9,3:1

Manifold: 940 turbo

Turbo: T3-04 from Sierra Cosworth, modified with larger turbine
& milled exhausthouse. Ported wastegate canal +
360° axialbearing. Vsr balansed.

Injection: Orginal Bosch LU-Jetronic. With 360cc injectors and 1,4:1
regulator.

Addon
Injection:
Homemade. 3 st 800cc injectors.
Adjustable in rpm & map.

NOZ: Nx system with one nozzel. Nozzels: 25-100hp.
Normaly uses 80hp.

Inter-
cooler:
Kina model in aluminium.

Boost
valve:
Recirculateing model in aluminium.

Ignition: Original Renix + Ems 6 retarding box.

Plugs: Ngk br8es

Fuel: E85 (85% Ethanol + 15% Gasoline) Buy it at almoust every
gasstation in Sweden.

Sorry for the poor english

That's a nice hardware spec! My only thoughts...it looks like he could really do with changing the factory management with "add-ons" to a programmable standalone system...I get kinda nervous when seeing factory systems 'adapted' like this. Reliability at this level has so much to do with accuracy of tuning.

Interesting news regarding the drivetrain. To be fair...if the torque tube can hold ~350whp, I'm not concerned for my plans...

cheers

Obviously his add-on do its job, and also Renix. But I agree, myself driving with Megasqurt controlling injection, ignition and more.

Here are Peters experience about the strength of the driveline:

Differential+housing ~200hp

M47R gearbox ~250hp

Sleeve between gearbox and transaxle ~250hp

Transaxle ~300hp

Driveshafts ~250hp

This is what the driveline manage if you drive nice, no burnouts, jumpy starts, wheelspin on gravel and then continuing out onto asfalt. And so on...
You could damage the driveline with 100hp if you act foolish :(

Numbers are in range what I have seen otherwhere, without changing anything in driveline 150hp is quite safe and still moves car quite ok pace in traffic. Too bad it starts to fall apart just when power rises to interesting levels :(

It's tricky to talk about driveline strength in BHP. Torque is the number which breaks drivetrain parts. For example, a 16v Turbo will typically be 'safer' than an 8v, as it will usually make the same power with less torque (making peak power at higher RPM). I think that's why a certain white 16vT on this forum is holding up ok at over 300bhp.

Those numbers look pretty good for a 8v turbo. Perhaps we need to use Hyabusa Turbo engines instead sm56

We use MS too, FREJ :) Cool system...
