Calling Scandinavians or mythology gradutes
Bit of a funny question, but thought someone on here must know. Were the Norse gods worshipped in Sweden? Particularly Thor, who is clearly the most rock and roll of any mythological character. There's a ton of information all over the internet about Germanic gods, and it appears that this was the belief system across all of Scandinavia, and Iceland, but I just wanted info from actual people.
Cheers,
John

When I was at junior school we had a Norwegian teacher, Mr. Locher, who got around statutory religious education by teaching us all about Norse Mythology. It was brilliant. I've been a worshipper of Loki ever since...
I'm pretty sure Norse Mythology was at one time the dominant religion throughout scandinavia including Sweden.

Finland is bit of oddball here, few links:

Ukko is bit like Thor for example, but really more like Odin, Thor was not a big thing here
I think we had pretty different history as finns were bit isolated people before crusades were made at middle ages, also there is not much of any documentation from times before crusades so whatever people where worshipped at time of crusades are those you can read up from links, so previous 9000 or so years are pretty much unknown in that aspect
Some more reading about history, which perhaps helps to get idea of why there is no Thor in here or at least some times and major events:

Our chosen politicians still follow tightly behind what they do in Sweden and copy it, that has been so from 2nd crusade at 1250s or so, I believe that killed all old believings and lot of documents also, but who knows what is reality.
Oh yes, this may actually help you:

Thanks for the info Jani, I wish we'd done all that in school instead of dreary old Catholicism.
The decision is now made, I'm naming my amazon Mjolner, the Swedish spelling of the name of Thor's hammer. Of course that means it will have to sound like thunder and strike fear into the hearts of my enemies, but since when is that a bad thing?

Thor has been used as a name for a special edition Volvo on at least one occasion, if that helps at all...
I heard Tony Barrett has a pair of B36s kicking around. That's a V8 made from two B18 I-4s...fitted to Sugga jeeps, etc. Most pointless engine ever (more weedy than an RV8, and it's not even light), but it's kinda cooooool. It'd be awesome in an Amazon
cheers

I'm really stuck for what engine. Supercharged B20 would be nice, but there's a voice in the back of my head that wants me to tear it all out and hammer an SBC into place. I've not measured up though, this is very much on the back burner.

It does and I have a spare one kicking around so I think I'll have a measure up, then if it seems possible I'll physically hang it into the engine bay and see what's what. Haven't seen any V8 amazons though, maybe it's a non starter. Plenty of room for a straight 6 though, Jag 4litre from the XJ40 would be ace.
