What should i pay for....

Post by magnumpi » 08 Feb 2008 10:23 pm

Rear pop out windows and all associated parts for a 3dr.
Not new but all in good working order, are they rare at all, or are they more hassle than they are worth, i.e leaks etc?

Sorry for all the Q's

Mine don't leak, my 3 dr mk3's pop out windows didn't either. The best thing about them, is that if you open them on a hot day you get airflow through the car. Look cool too.

As for price - no idea

Cheers, would £40 seem too expensive or about right?

Mine leaked.. So I sealed em.. Though it's a regional thing.. Freezing winters are bad for seals.. I wonder if you can get new seals from Volvo nowadays.

Contact J340GLT, he's breaking 2 3drs at the moment and I'm sure he'll be more than happy to help.

I've already seen these from a guy on fleabay, he's breaking two 300's i think. He's in Somerset, but i'm going to be working down there very soon, so would pick them up at at the same time.

Also the car being broken is an A reg, mine is a G, would the speedo/rev counter be a straight swap with mine?

P.S I have dibs on the pop outs

As long as the A reg ones are VDO then it'll be fine. If they say smiths on them, it may be trickier. I don't know what year they changed to VDO instruments, but someone with a clue will be on later to tell you.

What's A reg again, '83 / '84? They'll be Smiths gauges, I think the changeover was in 1985 (the last MkIIs got VDO). Here're some pics of the differences:

Smiths: (rev counter to 8000 rpm  square warning lamps)

VDO (round warning lamps, red marks on the rev counter, different font):

Thanks for the pics, Tom - Smiths look better IMO!

My '60 is 1984 spec and has the VDO guages - I think there's quite a lot of variation in what went on a 300 during the Mk2, Mk3 changeover. Probably because the facelift was never officially launched, so they just used up whatever came to hand from the parts bins.
