my volvo 340 gl - been round most of the uk with me,
more than once - brought it in may for £100 - came with a cd changer, decent stereo, sunroof,
3 months tax, 9 months mot. absolute bargin. had a few minor problems (one of the indicators
didnt work) that i fixed in minutes. since then ive done about 10k in it (10000 miles), taking the
milage up to a whopping..
173,024 MILES!!!
not bad
it seems to be a special edition - has 'go faster' stripes, a 360-style spoiler and a sunroof -
any ides what special edition this is?
it has a few remaining faults - i slid sideways into a post so the right-hand side front bumper clip
is broken and the panel behind it dented, the driveshaft keeps slipping, the econometer
doesnt work at all (shame, quite a nice toy), the leccy seats dont work and the temperature
guage is b*gered (sometimes reads full hotness and red light flashes the second i turn the key,
sometimes reads nothing after driving for 100 miles..)
some pics are here (intermixed with holiday snaps).. got more photos (just not online) if anyone
wants to see -> http://www.5lab.co.uk/pics/bike_dec2003/

Hello Hugh and welcome!
Thank you for your story & pictures (nice Volvo and nice blond girl )
You have a Volvo 340 special edition BUT what's the name? .... No idea
Your problem with the temperature indicator is strange, it's certainly a bad connection ->
not too serious
Do you have rust problems?

well ya see - i started on the paint cos it had rust patches, since hten i've not been able to wash the car (got nothing down here to do it with) so i cant paint it. i figured its only worth cleaning the paint up once ive done the whole thing.
the only bit that needs doing is actually the little bump strip, as the rear bumper is being replaced with one to match the front this week (i just cant get the old one off due to.. you guessed it.. rust!)

im making up for all the weight of the metal thats fallen off due to rust
it *is* quite heavy, but i wouldnt have it any other way, the shelf is sturdy as f**k, its never going to break. incidentally, most of it is only 18mm thick, rather than the 36mm you can see in that pic (thats just a brace, to improve strenght and gain enough height for the hinge)

Your Volvo may have a pedagogical role for us... concernig the rust problems! I like the close up pictures (body, under the car...) If you have other pictures about that, don't hesitate to post them...
