Dont know how he managed the engine but its nice to see a good write up of the 340My first job as language sales manager in 1988 included a Volvo 340. With a 1.7-litre engine, it was never going to break any speed records going along the M62.
However it was a step up from my 1974 Mini.
The Volvo had one particular advantage and that was it could cope with copious amounts of translated literature in the nicely sized boot.
As I recall, it was quite comfy - and it wasnt taxed so much in those days
