Hmm, seems I may not actually be able to use a K cam with the B230K with the 631 head, they seem to have a different type of cam completely... hmph!

ah, never got that far to looking into it. If that really is the case then you are pretty screwed and will have to keep the current 2.3 engine setup as is (unless you rip it all to pieces and replace the pistons etc. but once you get that far sadly you may as well have got a late model block with the upgraded internals). I'm afraid it's not possible to put another volvo 2.3 head on with the k either without a piston change etc because the compression would drop to ~6:1 :(

Whats the current plan?

Yeah, it's a real, real bummer! As it is that particular engine doesn't offer many gains and is impossible to get around without changing the pistons.. I'm getting the other parts from Rich anyway so will most likely stick with the 2.0 for now and upgrade to 2.3 at a later date.

shame.. I'm having to wait ages to sort my engine as I'm slow and still waiting on parts etc but it should be cool when its done as its quite an extensive build :)

still, for now just stick the k cam and webers onto the b200 and get it tuned

back onto the carb thing, theres only 4mm difference between a 40/45 and likewise 2mm 45/48. first you must decide what you want from the engine, ie will it be used on road much or just track and then decide on venturi and jet sizes. if you want peak power at peak revs then large venturi BUT at low revs it'll run poor  . if your pulling away with large venturi with low revs the engine will want to stall and you cannot "blip" the throttle as the carbs will flood up. on ours about 4000rpm is needed to pull away and even then you've got to slip the clutch otherwise it'll stall.
something to think about
i've always wanted a 16v volvo motor under the hood
good luck

hehe, that sounds like an awesomely tuned carb'd motor  can't wait until the summer when I can stick the 2.3l engine in and by then it should have some nice go faster bits and a similar lumpy race idle 8)
