TONY BLAIR'S family car, a Chrysler Grand Voyager people carrier, was recently put up for sale for Pounds 30,000 - Pounds 13,000 more than the going rate. The new owner will drive away a vehicle with an intriguing political history, but what becomes of other cars once owned by celebrities? ANGELA EPSTEIN tracked down eight drivers who own cars which once belonged to the stars . . .

EVE GREENER (above), 24, drives a Volvo 360 GLE which was once owned by the actor Sir Alec Guinness (inset).

The 17-year-old car is valued at Pounds 500. Eve, who is single and lives in Portsmouth, is a sales promotions assistant at Fort Nelson museum in Fareham.

She says: THIS is my first car and I'm very fond of it. After so many years on the road and 84,000 miles on the clock, it's just an old banger really, but it's reliable and I'm proud to have it.

I haven't got a garage so I'm hoping that bad weather won't affect it. I couldn't afford a lot of repairs and I would hate to see it get into bad condition.

It was a present from Diana Mackay, a friend and colleague at the museum.

She had owned it for a couple of years and she wanted it to go to a good home. She knew I would appreciate the car's special history.

She's always been so proud of the Alec Guinness connection and loves to recount how she came to own it. As the story goes, Sir Alec, who owned the car from new, sold it to a vicar from the South-East of England 11 years ago, who then passed it on to the son-in-law of another colleague of Diana's. She bought the car from him.

I must admit I love showing off the log book with Sir Alec's name in it.

Also, there's a flap in the back seat just above the arm rest which Sir Alec apparently had put in so he could fit his skis in the car. Diana learned this from the previous owner and it always tickles me.

I remember a 360 on ebay a few years ago that claimed to be Alec Guiness' car. I know a few people who work at Fort Nelson and who are in the Volvo side of things, worth an ask!

Not sure about that flap thing for the ski's. Is she just describing the standard ski hole behind the armrest with a plastic and cloth cover... Or is this just a saloon thing, and it really was a mod on her car...

That ski hole is very useful, we've had to use it a few times for long things, although not ski's ;)

Interesting stuff, yeah Chris, I remember posting about the one on Ebay or advertised somewhere else, I can't remember which it was, it might have been on Adtrader or something.....someone have a search if you're interested!

What I can't figure out is how the logbook can still have his name on it after all this time, unless they're talking about a copy of the original or when it still had his name as a previous keeper!

I think a myth has been forumlated over time regarding the ski hatch part. You should have heard the story that accompanied the Volvo 140 Pick up that my Dad built. By the time we tracked it down again 17 or so years later, the story had been twisted and changed and the chap had been told it was built by two Aston Martin apprentices as a learning project!

If you are into that kind of thing I have a Amazon estate that belonged to Lord Anglesey and a early 144 that belonged to Lady Anglesey (not that famous but still interesting history.

Matts 240 used to belong to a sales rep as slaters volvo dealer hence the 240 reg no.

Also my rare 133 was a daily driver for Guy Salmon! This car was my pay for working for Charlton road auto spare and Rein told me it was much quicker then most well worked B18 amazons!

A cars history is always interesting and for me it makes them enjoyable to own :D
