				Llandow Trackday

Well i was supposed to be taking my 205 to the trackday at Llandow organised by PSOOC but it wasnt quite ready so i decided to take the 360 instead. The day started out pretty badly as when i woke up it was snowing

. Still i set off and made Llandow i 1 1/2 hours, just before the gates opened.
I booked myself in to the novice session due to the vehicle i was driving (no offence 300 lovers) and i was the 3rd session out on track so it wasnt so green. The track was dry but there was a 20mph wind blowing across the track so it made for some pretty interesting weaving down the straights

 .
I was the first car out in my first session and surprisingly it stayed that way for the whole 15 min session (i think my track knowlidge may have had something to do with that)
The car performed ok, despite the massive amounts of roll and it had a bit of an oil leak coming from the dipstick tube (i'v cured it now) but other than that it stayed problem free. I adjusted the tyre pressuers to 37F and 38R towards the end of the day which made a massive improvement and i had to swap the front tyres over (side to side) as the left one was getting pretty worn

I think i won 3 awards today. Most body roll award, Most hilarious car to follow award and Biggest Legend award. Primaraly for taking a standard 360 round a track

Anyway i'll copy some pics from the many photographers that were there and i'll get my vids up as soon as i can.

Good to see you enjoyed it. I always wanted to take that car on a track day.
Those tyre pressures sound about right. I used to run them around that for spirited road driving.

Some pics of the 360 can be found here:

i must say that after driving the car for the last 2 days the knock and the ticking noise that were coming from the transmission have dissapeared and it seems to have sweetened up a bit

  well worth the day then

Yeah that pic was taken in the first session, and people tell me that was the only time that it was doing it. Strange huh

ha, as interesting a project as that would be i'm going to have to pass. I'v allready got my track toy and the 360 would need an awful lot of work to make it a proper track car i.e.
serious weight stripping
engine rebuild
brake upgrade
suspension pick up points changed
some much stiffer springs
i'd also want to independantise (ok i made that word up but you know what i mean) the rear end
Probably make my own steering collum
upgrader the steering rack
copious amounts of roll cage to stiffen the body up
some better tyres (Pirelli P6000's are terrible)
LSD
and thats even before i could begin to think about getting anymore power from the motor. Maybe someone else will want to take all of that on

Looks like a fun day. Just been looking at the PSOOC thread and it looks like everyone else agreed. Maybe I'll try and get in on the action next time in the 106

Suprised to see an MR2 Supercharger out there - very nice indeed!!

Maybe piston rings have been bit stuck, even I was under impression that worn valve seals (seals in cylinder head, valve rod or something in english?) could cause smoke more likely under engine braking, but stuck piston rings would smoke more constantly.
Of course it could suck oil into intake via crankcase ventilation when enginebrakin on high revs, that would be if piston rings would be stuck a bit.
Just some ideas that come to mind, don't know if I'm 100% right with these but perhaps someone could say yay or nay

That sounds about right. It's advised to do lots of hard engine braking to bed in new close machined performance engines to 'suck' oil through to the rings to keep all well lubricated but still allow the engine to rev hard.
I guess any slight imperfections would allow smoke under hard engine braking in an older engine.

"stem seals" i would be the english term that you're after. I'm now leaning towards the idea that i had the oil level topped up to the max line and during heavy manouvering oil surged in to the pump and flooded the head which caused the stem seals to flood and leank in to the cylinders. This was solved during the day by the oil leak that i had which drained the oil down far enough so that it wasnt a problem anymore
