You can process waste oil and it works out at 6-12p a litre. You can either bodge it in small batches or buy a processing drum for ~£300 which filters, heats, and dries it for you.

Reason for long idling after driving is that cylinder head is quite long and when you drive front of engine is lot colder than rear, also there are hotter and colder places due to design, now alloy head sits on iron block and it is prone to twist, these engines has bad reputation because of this misuse, when you idle 1-2 minutes after driving temps evens out and there won't be any extra tension build up when engine cools down, those are which crack head quite easily.

One problem you will face soon, all 4 cyl diesel engines will start to sound really bad for ear

Used motor oil possible with some mix with diesel?

I will soon have loads of it in my hands and what would be better way to dispose it than using as fuel :P

Pretty sure you can use 100% processed waste veg oil. It may be necessary to renew the fuel filter more often due to the presence of methanol in the finished product. I'm gonna do this with a cavalier TD and I'm gonna wind the boost up too.

jtbo, that makes sense. I would have thought about 1-2 minutes of slow (20mph) driving down residential streets and then find a parking space would have the same effect after a long trip?

Waste cooking is alot of hassle to filter, de-gum and remove water. Once you take into account the space required and time it's not really worth the effort unless you have a huge covered yard. New oil is only 56p :D

Any ideas where I can source a service manual?

The Haynes/Chilton don't cover the diesels. Do I have to resort to a VW manual?

Thanks
