Whilst I was taking a Maxi to get serviced and pick up my 'scrapyard find' 15K Metro City to MOT later (which it duly passed) some doughnut in a big Tarmac Scania Tipper Artic did this to my BM

That's my house with the skip in the drive, which is why the BM wasn't there... Note it isn't even on the road! And the best thing is the driver is denying he did - good job a neighbour witnessed him bulldozing his way through

Hopefully bastard gets his license void, it would be not as bad if car would been some rusty fwd shopping trolley, but a proper RWD car which they don't make anymore is completely another story

Ouch! Lucky your neighbour saw it. My parents had a similar problem, damage done, the person drove off, but luckily it was witnessed. The denied all knowledge though, despite the fact the paint left on our car matched the paint missing from their bullbar, and was the same height! Watch your insurance company doesn't get dragged into it and the cost gets divided out between both of you, especially if they continue to deny all knowledge or that they bung your premiums up next year. It's a mad world.

That looks costly, especially for the age of car, so I'd imagine they'd write it off. For a broken light, dented rear quarter, door, and a broken handle is was a write off! Just dig your heels in and demand that it is returned to pre accident condition and that you won't accept a payout or write off unless it is well worth it for you! It's also the hassle factor and if the car is one you are attached to.

I took it to a local bodyshop with a good name yesterday and was told it's a fairly easy repair - no need for a rear quarter thankfully, that gash can be pulled out, migged up, treated and smoothed out and the result will actually mean less filler in the car than if I had a rear quarter put on.... Of course the major cost of fitting a quarter would be labour and the removal of interior, back window, petrol tank etc so hopefuly the quote will be reasonable. It's actually insured on my multi-vehicle classic policy so I'm hoping they'll work with me - it's looking like Tarmac will have to take the blame and foot the bill and I only want the car returned to what it was like this time yesterday!

A lot of 'Tarmac' vehicles are actually owner-operators on a tied contract to Tarmac, not actually owned by Tarmac. They'll still be insured or they (naturally) default on their contract, but it won't be the Tarmac organisation you'd be taking on.

That's good news then! Indeed, lets hope the insurance company works with you if they deal with classics a lot. One thing to be careful of or make sure it gets treated, is where the heat from the welding burns the inside of the rear quarter, as if it's left, it will be bare metal, and will probably be a good spot for condensation to get trapped. If there is a way to reach it without removing the entire inside of the car it would be best zinc primed and painted, if not a good coating of Waxoyl or Dinitrol, as otherwise, a few years down the line it is might be a nasty rusty mess!

You've not had a lot of luck lately! Nasty gouges in the bumper there. Has it broken the clip on the bumper or bodywork, or just pushed it off? If the one on the bumper is broken, it's plastic rivetted on from memory, but I never got around to drilling a pilot hole and using screws to put a new clip on one. I hope the assessor is willing to be a witness, as that will add serious weight to the claim. I hope everything gets sorted out for you. Was it good news for the BMW claim?

Yes, good news with the BM - the quote I had to repair (£513) was accepted and the assessor himself was a knowledgeable time-served panel beater & sprayer so he knew what he was on about. He did say that many garages would have just quoted for a rear quarter and written the car off and I was fortunate to go to a place were they knew what they were talking about.
Re: the bumper, not sure of the full damage til we take the bumper off but it will be going to the same place when the BM is done, and hopefully I'll be able to get them to do all the other bits done on the car for a favourable cash sum at the same time. (rust-free drivers door anyone???) good news looking closer at it, there is no sign of rust on the rear valance, is this a record??? - I'm gonna get them to do what's needed to mint the red saloon too once I've had it all machine polished
