Its broke :(

Post by pettaw » 14 Apr 2008 08:31 pm

OK so I guess it had to happen eventually.

I got hit up the rear end.......I was waiting at a junction, and some guy comes barrelling up behind me, and bang!

And, just for completeness here is his car.

I just hope that I don't have to fight every call centre in India to get the car repaired. I suspect they will try to fob me off with a write off, but I'm gonna try my hardest not to let that happen.

It is always a shame to see 300-series Volvo either getting scrapped or someone colliding it.
But it doesn't look too bad. I've seen worse looking collided cars repaired.

The main problem will be finding rear panels now, thanks to Ford's act of sabotage

Dude, thats such a shame.

Glad you are going to try and fix it, ring me with what you need, I'll have to ferret. I know I'm being hopeful here, as I havn't eagle eye'd the pictures, but boot floor, rear panel and bumper? I can't see much else.

I've a colour coded rear bumper (prolly skin only, the metals rotten, but I just so happen to know a white car breaking that could lend it's inner) that you can have.

Sorry to hear your news, Andy - and you're right, will be hard to get anything other than the write off. But you should be able to get the payout and the car back gratis without too much hard work

yes and the money you get for your whiplash injuries should see the car back in pristine condition ,

stationary car with handbrake on + being hit by moving car = pain

get down to the doctors asap ,

whiplash dosent always come on straight away but you should get checked out ,

today or tomorrow you will probably start getting neckache and headaches .

I still suffer neck and backache from a crash I was involved in over 20 years ago.

Argh... what a nightmare - good luck with it mate, get prepared to save some adverts for 300's to show the value what they can sell for and then hopefully prevent them from writing it off!

You have a point Mick, the only diagnostics avaiable for whiplash is patient self report - ie there's no evidence on examination, MR or CT Scan, only what the patient says he feels.

Sorry to hear about this Andy,

I suppose look on the bright side it should not be to bad to repair and apart from whiplash you are unhurt.

I hope the insurace do pay out quickly so you can get it sorted.

Haha thanks guys.

I don't think I really wanna claim for whiplash tbh. I feel fine and in no more pain than usual ;)

I just hope its not gonna drag out for aaaages, cos I'll get impatient and cave in rather than fight for my rights.

As I said on the phone Andy, demand they return the car to the condition it was before the accident, and as you replaced the rear bumper recently and had work done, that should help the matter, as it won't be 20 year old kit which they can claim they would be improving by repairing it. This car is not your Joe public's old run around that if they get given a couple of hundred quid to replace it they'd be happy, this is a car which you've invested time and money in, that is a special model too. The ultimate challenge to the insurance company in order to stop them writing it off is....... you find me a 360 GLEi SE with (working and converted to the environmentally friendly gas) air con, leather and in a similar condtion and fit megasquirt and my rebuilt engine then! I'm sure that'll scare them enough to pay out and put it right!

As I said, any help or bits you need, give me a shout, but I'd wait until they've assessed it or agreed to pay before you do anything to it.

thats your call Andy but whiplash dosent always hit straight away ,

the body is an amazing invention but in a rear ender the only working shock absorber is your spine,

as I said before, 20 years after my accident I still suffer from back ache and a pain in the neck ( I thought I had cured that by divorcing my first wife  )

all those years ago I got £1,000 and all I had to do was see my gp once and a specialist the insurance company sent me to see.

Ouch, that's a damn shame it had to happen to that car!

Hope you get it sorted to your satisfaction, Andy and glad you weren't hurt ...

Andy, I am truly sorry that that has happened to you. I know the love you have for that car and the hard work that has gone into its (ongoing) restoration. Hopefully, as Pete says, the insurance will return it to the state it was in prior to the accident as they are legally obliged to do so. you never know, some of the bodywork that needs doing may get covered by this incident!!

Mick, if Andy isn't suffering (and whiplash manifests itself within 24hrs) then for him to claim that he is would be fraudulent. Lord alone knows our insurance premiums are high enough as it is without having to pay for all the sponging gits that are out to claim for all they can get. However, should Andy suffer from any neck/shoulder/head pain then I suggest that he gets himself off to see his doctor as soon as possible, not for compensation purposes, so that treatment can start asap. Ultrasound treatment, plus strong prescription only painkillers work wonders for this sort of injury and if Andy is suffering then he needs the medical attention pronto.

I agree Rupert ,

I wasn't suggesting any kind of fraudulent claim but was just pointing out whiplash isn't always instantaneous and agree if Andy had any pain at all he should get it checked out.

in my case the accident was on a Sunday morning and I didnt notice any dicomfort until the Wednesday night.

My back totally locked when I went to pick my ,then ,baby son up,

something I had done a million times before and to be honest I hadn't even thought of whiplash or a claim until I went to see my doctor and he asked me to go through what had happenned over the last few days.

As soon as I mentioned the accident he nodded and said ," thats the cause then "

I said to him the accident was nearly four days before I got the pain and his reply was it effects different people at a different rate of time depending on weight height etc
