I was being slightly sarcastic with the apology lol.
Personally I think the beginning of this thread was painting all people with one brush which I don't agree with personally.
I admit I bought my 300 as I wanted a cheapish drift car and I have no shame in saying that because even though it is a "Cheap drift car" it also holds a lot of sentimental value to me as I enjoy old obscure cars. It is my only car and I use it on a daily basis. I take pride in the car and spend alot of time on it! (It's currently on axle stands as we speak lol).
I find it quite annoying how some of you can whinge about drifting as the next closest thing to banger racing which is a load of tripe! If you saw a rally 300 you would admire it which I would too, but 1.) I bet the car gets far more abuse than the likes of a drift 300 and 2.) I bet to create that rally car they've used a perfect brand spanking shell too
If there were more available parts such as LSD's etc then we wouldn't "Bodge" the diff up by welding it
actuall you know what if "Drifters" arn't welcome anymore then i'll understand if i'm not wanted here or something. Personally I think that this thread was a little shallow

Fair play Frits. It's just annoying though because I do genuinely enjoy the community on here it's very pleasent and helpful and I was quite looking forward to maybe going to a few meets and putting faces to names.
But if i'm going to be looked down on and labelled as a bad person for what i do with my car regardless of my thoughts of my car then i'm not exactly going to attend wearing a flame jacket am I?

Guys please don't take this thread personally! it seems as though Aymat has made a huge generalisation and trodden on many toes! Rest assured that it is not the view of the community (heres me putting that flame jacket on) as a whole. I think some people have confused drifters with the same people that rip apart the cars and go to illegal cruises etc etc which is wrong. As has already been said, without drifting and other motorsport there would not be so much development in upgrades for the 300 series as there has been since I've been on the forum. (only a year)

Tbh Griffo, I'm trying to work out how I don't get abuse for rallying mine, chances are if I have an off theres going to be a lot less car left that if you hit an armco.
We gonna all have to choose whether we fit in a certain catagory next?

Dude, come to a meet. I've never seen people getting abuse (actually, thats boll*cks, all we do is take the p*ss out of each other, especially towards Foggy. And Steve. And Grandad, And Me. And whoever else turns up
No other car bsed meet I go to has the camaradery(sp) of a V3M meet. So far, in the middle of musuem car parks, we've changed exhausts, tuned carbs, rebuilt carbs, done cambelt swaps, changed heater motors + niggly bits. It's great when someone says x isn't working, how can I fix it, and next thing 3 of us are demonstrating and doing the job, as someone will have the part in their boot

Actually, I've just re-read this again and think it's a huge generalisation.
As mentioned, there are some very cool modified 300's around now - 16v swaps, +T conversions etc. This kinda thing wouldn't have progressed so fast without the drift scene. Having been in Ali's car a fair few times it's one of the quickest 300's I've been in, and a testament to the work put in.
Griffo - I'd ignore the original post, it's not a view of all of us - and it'd be great to see your car at a meet. I bet that 16v sounds bloody awesome on bike carbs!

I think most of the points have been covered here except one
At the end of the day if you spend your hard earned money buying a car its totally up to you what you do with it and sod what anyone else thinks .
300 volvo or buggatti veyron its just a lump of metal with an engine that is designed to go from A to B ( sometimes via c,d, and e ).
I for one would rather see a 300 drifter than another one in the scrap yard .
and equally how someone advertises there car is up to them ,
I thought the ebay ad was quite tongue in cheek to be honest ,
300's have a known market amongst drifters and if the guy wants to sell HIS car , who are we to dictate how he should advertise it ?
the beauty of this club ( as I have said before ) is it is much stronger than the car its based on and we have always welcomed everyone who has an interest in the 300 .
It would be sad if we ended up with a sterile site full of people with the same opinions about everything , we would end up with nothing to talk about.
as special ( remember him ) used to say
Vive la difference ( see what owning a BX has done to me )

People will always be enthusiastic about a Volvo 300 for different reasons. For some people, their ideals are originality and a perfect restauration. For others, they like their car to be something more of an individual creation. Some 300 drivers have plenty of cash to spend keeping their car in good nick, others are running it on a shoestring. So far, I think V3M has managed to keep these very different kind of Volvo 300 fans under one "umbrella".
Aymat is not lashing out at the motorsport fraction in general (and certainly not at meintag, nikdev, frits, Ali etc.) and it shouldn't be taken that way, even if the post title "Drifters - you make me sick" was obviously bound to provoke a lively discussion ). He is having a go at the "buy it, drift it, break it, scrap it" crowd, for whom that Ebay ad was obviously aimed at.
I personally do my best to ignore those people who's first post is "How do I weld the diff" and whos second post is "I've broken the clutch / prop / crashed it into the guy in front of me". These people, I'm afraid, p*** me off. At the end of the day, it's their property of course, but it doesn't mean I have to like it.

That's cool then. I mean don't get me wrong I can understand what some of you say to an extent, but as Redline says it's upto the individual at the end of the day what he or she does with their property. We all already own 300's anyway and we can't save them all (unless someone has lot's of money to make a 300 sanctuary lol!)
If anything though it's a good thing for your guys as they'll become more of a recognised classic as they become more scarce lol?
Anyway, when is the next meet? and where is it?
